This also happened at LBA a couple of years back to the secondary runway (now a taxiway). 28/10 became 27/09.
I’m sorry, I find it hard to believe that the RAF would have a Nimrod in the air over a residential area for a number of hours due to the wife of one of these bombers being arrested hours earlier. The Police would have had the house searched ages before (unless they had requested the Nimrod to jam radio signals, yeah right). If this were the case they would have had them airborne a few weeks ago when more terrorist suspects were arrested in the same area.
If this ‘was’ a Nimrod there would be more chance of it training using the LBA beacon like some of the AWACS did last year at higher altitude.
Nice guess work, but it doesn’t add up.
I’ll email the airport as suggested to find out the ‘real aircraft and operator’.
The Police did arrest this woman in connection with the 7th July bombs, but it was earlier in the evening on the opposite side of Leeds. They also arrested two people in Batley which is some distance from Leeds, also on the opposite side.
It’s not brilliant but it gets the message across. Stickers are much cheaper than paint, especially when they only have it for a few months!
If this is so sensitive that it cannot be discussed on an open forum what was it doing being aired on the news. If it was on the local/national news I must have missed it when I blinked as I saw both.
I’ve also Googled it and cannot find anything relating to a Nimrod and Leeds on the 9th or 10th May.
What news??? Where???
No definately not. This aircraft flew over every 10 minutes or so for 2 hours. We’re not even on the flightpath and so to hear this aircraft for so long was definately odd.
No this was definately a jet and was in the air for a good two hours from around 22:30 to 00:30 this morning. Quite a few neighbours and other people in East Leeds have commented about it too.
No, this is definately a jet. Sound like a 737-200 or something similar, roughly coming over every 5-10 minutes.
I was in Liverpool last weekend and this route was being advertised on the side of buses. I wonder if the new daily Tenerife service will go the same way?
I believe there are many routes still to be taken up that would be successful given the correct type and frequency, like the following…
Leeds – London City
Most of these routes would be perfect for a new domestic airline, particularly using the likes of ATR42/72 aircraft.
What do you lot think??

BMI tried the LBA-LCY service with a wet leased ATR42 last year. The timings were good but passenger loads were disapointing.
It seems unlikely that AZ would start up an EDI-MXP seeing as they’ve now officially dropped Manchester from the end of October (and Birmingham last year). They hope to bring back the MAN service in April, however my sources at AZ tell me it is highly likely to be ditched completely.
I would get there 3 hours before if it MAN. Last summer we arrived 2 hours before for an XLA flight and it was absolute chaos. It took nearly an hour and a half to get checked in and then half an hour to get through the security checks. By the time we got airside they were already calling our names to go to the gate immediately!
It will be interesting to see how this effects CO’s Manchester services! Good luck to them.
Just one other thought, I wonder what would happen to Liverpool Airport if the bottom fell out of low cost air travel? I can see an extra tax being bumped on this soon by the European Union following the warnings on global warming. LPL certainly seem to have aligned themselved with this type of business. At least LBA has more of a mix of scheduled, low cost and good old fashioned charter services.
The BMI peak time flights always have high demand and therefore BMI can fill their aircraft at the higher airfares. You can however pick up seats on their off peak flights from £34.00 each way plus tax which is probably cheaper than the train (and more comfortable)!
Is Prague not classed as Eastern Europe?
