While ‘the Lanc’ personifies to me the extreme sacrifice made in WW11 by so many people, i am of an age where the Vulcan was nearer in time to my situation.
I am certain many people who lived through the first world war could relate to a more contempary icon than ‘the Lanc’

Every era has something which they can identfy with and the Vulcan does it for me and many others,but this does not take way the signifcance of anything else. I think it depends on when you were born as to which icon you can more closely identify with
Many periods in history are signposted by certain ‘icons’ and each reminds me of the sacrifice and hardships made by the people of that time to ensure my right to live a free life .
All should be honoured equally IMHO
