What was the purpose of the two cockpits? I assume the small one on top is the cockpit but what of the nose glazing it looks like a cockpit, i can’t see the russians putting in sightseeing windows.
Just spoke to the wife who lived near Cherry lane she says it was still there until1972.
Cherry lane is still undeveloped land wether it is still an adventure playground who knows?
As for the College the only airframe left from memory is a chopper wasp i think, my son is starting there in sept i’ll ask him to look around
Apologies for the misinformaation on the reg as i said my memory is a bit gone!!
But i do remember that the sycamore was a bare shell when i used to play on it, it was light blue in colour. This was about 1969-1970 Thw adventure playground site is still there i think i live about a mile away in Bewbush but used to live in Ifield which is a few minutes walk from the site.
I used to prowl around Gatwick and surrounding areas from 1970 -1982 aircraft spotting and never again saw the sycamore after i stopped going to the adventure playground. I always assumed it was scrapped.
Would look nice in my back garden now!!
Wow!! as soon as i saw the line BRistol Sycamore i thought of the one at Cherry Lane in Langley green. I used to play on that all the time, in fact is was instrumental in igniting my interest in aviation!
From a distant memory which is very probably wrong i recall the registration G-ALZP now it may be that or a different arrangment or it may be totally wrong but something along those lines was marked on it at sometime.
Again i wouldn’t trust my memory but thanks for bringing back into my thoughts that earlist of my aviation memories aaah… nostalgia what a wonderful thing
Hope ths helps [by all means forget the rambling!!:)
Very good programme. One point it was mentioned many times that you couldnt fly a spitfire with an instructor because of course they are all single seaters. Why do the BBMF not utilise the one or two two seat spitfires in this country for training purposes?
Though this is not possible for the Hurricane would it not be safer for the Spit?
I am sure someone has explained the various [probably finacial] reasons before!!
Cheers

Great News!!….cue fond memories of flying to the Paris air show in a Viscount beautiful aircraft.:) 😀
She was on a round the world flight with Thomas Kendall and his family in 1960.
In March of that year they landed at Ras Ash Shaykh Humayd and were attacked by Bedouins attached to the Saudi Arabian Army who thought they were Israli Commandos, after shooting up the plane T.Kendall and the others were arrested for questioning. They were released later to the American consul but had to abandon the PBY and The Saudi authorities refused to admit liabillity. So there she sat gradually getting worse and worse.
Many thanks for answering that!!
