    https://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/how-the-navys-new-block-iii-super-hornet-could-crush-chinas-25964

A single Block III Super Hornet equipped with a Block II IRST would be able to detect and track a low observable enemy aircraft such a J-20 or Su-57 at extended ranges. However, that lone Block III jet would not be able to generate a weapons quality track on that enemy stealth aircraft because an infrared sensor cannot independently generate range data.

“If you have a single IRST ship, with your IRST, you can get a line of bearing—it’s going to see a hot spot out there, what direction it’s in, but it doesn’t have the distance. You don’t have a weapons quality track,” Kornegay said. “Now if you combine two aircraft, the fusion algorithm, now you have lines of bearing from two different sources. Where those two sources cross, the algorithm is going to compute a weapons quality track on that aircraft. So that’s a huge advantage for the warfighter to see that long before you’re in the enemy’s radar range.”

There isn’t any IRST deployed that has targeting capability, stop talking BS.
US Navy it`s testing now a concept where 2 Rhinos share IRST info to calculate a shooting solution, but it`s far from deployed

So them Americans sold their british cousins Trident SLBM but wouldn`t sell them a tactical tool like the F-22……..even more, BAE developed subsystems (An/alr-94)for the Raptor……

    @ lonewolf

you should read Razoux`s book, it`s an eye opener, you would be amazed at how pragmatic nations are when it comes to their interests.

your take on the subject- “the Iranians were highly distrustful of the Soviets for historical reasons and the fact that they heavily supported Iraq in its war against Iran” etc etc – it`s beyond simplistic and has nothing to do with reality

Also, to be more precise, Razoux wrote that the Iranians allowed the Soviets to inspect/fly the plane

of course, my job is not making engines.

Indeed, your job is to be a professional retard – diametrically opposed to engine making

you need to separate dreams from reality.
the reality is the pak-fa bay is too shallow and limited. it will carry air to air missiles unless russia makes new small diameter bombs
    google su-47 bay

wind your neck in, you still havent figured out how to make anything resembling a jet engine

There is probably well enough space available for three AAMs per main bay (i.e. six in total, plus two in the SRAAM bays) and all of that boils down to how they utilize said space, but I really don’t get all this talk. Half this thread has been destroyed by mindless S-ducks and “hey check these 2010 talking points by some MP.net 12-year olds out” as if these 6 years didn’t teach anybody nuthin.

Lessons such as no – it’s not supposed to imitate the F-22 in every conceivable way, so no – if it’s not like the Raptor here and there that is not automatically some kind of “failure”.

Just a simple thought exercise: say they want to carry large guided bombs, strike missiles and so on in these main bays too, as large and as many as possible. Knowing what we know now (it’s been six years as I already mentioned…) that does indeed seem to be what’s up, right. We’ve already seen the 58UShK and so on… So we’re talking about a whole different kind of launcher configuration and a different way to optimize the available space across the chosen scope.

Essentially – it’s not a Raptor with 6+2 AAMs and an optional, token bomb load, it’s a slightly different approach from the get go.

Agree with what you wrote, but I guess 6 ARH missiles should be at least the minimum, I mean with DRFM and jammers and all that the more missiles the better

4 x RVV-BD class missile on 2 Central bay and 2x RVV-MD on inner wing internal bay.

RVV-SD might also be limited to 4 though it would be interesting if they can squeez in 3x RVV-SD per bay

I hope they can, Raptor can carry 6 Amraams internally

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aviation_shootdowns_and_accidents_during_the_Iraq_War

That list is far from truth, I read Sean Naylor s Relentless Strike and he speaks (from memory) about 5-6 Little Birds shot down (that doesnt mean there werent more)

Makes you wonder what is the exact figure in reality
