This is me. Question is whether the Hornet or I, am the mock-up?
Hi Tom
have sent you a pm.
Ground flight switch….also on the Hornet/Sea Hornet……
Interestingly, the late Paul Coggan related a story to me a few years ago of wooden remains of a Mosquito spa at RAF Coltishall, on the edge of the airfield. Maybe the same…? Mudmover, are ther any contact details, or photos of the remains that you could pm me?
Thanks in advance.
East Kirby have indeed given the wellington wings a good home. Great museum, great exhibits. Last went there a few years ago for the lancaster taxi experience.
I had this idea of putting a single seat RAF vampire together from museum parts held in storage. Wings, booms, being the easiest parts to find. Coupled with the newly identified FB.5 pod that I aquired. Now there is potential for a complete exhibit one day. This is a much easier and cheaper prospoct than doing the same with a Wimpey, but with the will and money, such a project could still be done.
Forming another complete airframe of a Wellington makes sense to me. There are plenty of parts around, that would otherwise be unlikely to come together. It is afterall still a rare type, with only two other survivors of the thousands built remaining.
Maybe the Midland Warplane Museum, Wellington Aviation Gallery, or East Kirby museums already have long term plans to work together?
Indeed it is true, there are enough Wellington parts in UK museums to assemble a third complete airframe for static display purposes. All of these parts are looked after by various concerns. It would take a huge effort for one group to assemble it. Which serial would it take? Or would it form a composite?

….Or Sea Hornet!
I spent my formative years at North Weald with various concerns, from the mid 70’s to the early 90’s, and would feel a great loss to see it become housing. It was sad enough to see the Fighter Meet go, and domestic site demolished to make way for a cash and carry!
Still, fingers crossed that sense will prevail at a Governmental level too.
Lovely work Cees….more power to your elbow!
The Hornet F.1 and Vampire FB.5 instrument panel display was number 21.
My son and I had an excellent weekend. I met some very interesting members of the public, who were keen to talk about the Vampire and Hornet panel displays. It was great to meet up again with so many friends, and view their cockpit or panel progress.
Thanks to all at Newark for hosting an excellent event, that has become a permanent fixture on my calendar from now on. Thanks to Ken Ellis and David Burke for their continued support and interest.
Well done to all the winners, but especially to Terry Parker (Venom) and Mark Gauntlett (Hunter).
On a personal note, I was pleased to find the last two gauges and a switch for my vampire panel in the aero-boot, and I must give thanks to a member of F.A.S.T at Farnborough, who donated a massive collection of Hornet photos and magazine clippings from the last 40 years. Included in the collection are two photos (one BW, one Colour) of a sea hornet, whose rear fuselage may be incorporated into the Hornet build one day.
There appears to be a good mix of types due to attend this weekend. Mark G’s hunter will make a welcome visitor:
Spitfire, Buccaneer, L.29 Delfin, Belvedere, Hunter [x2], Venom, Meteor F8, Lightning F6, Canberra, Sea Vixen, Jaguar, Jet Provost and Hunter FGA.9 [x2], Canberra PR.9 and Canberra T.17.
Visiting instrument panel displays include – Jet Provost, Auster AOP.9, HS 748, Anson, Hornet, P.39, P.51, Vampire’s FB.5 & T.11, and Swordfish.
Visiting rigs include – Spitfire [Saturday only], Tornado, Lysander, Spitfire cockpit rig & other Spitfire parts.
