Particularly like the caption to the first pic:
“Getting ready: Members of the flight and ground crews of a B-17 bomber named ‘Honey Chile II’ make adjustments to their plane prior to a mission, Polebrook, Northamptonshire, England, fall 1942″
Using a piece of cloth and not much else in yet another obviously staged picture. Hence the good quality of the images. Nice pictures, though!
It’s foggy around here today and only when it is do you realise how many modern cars are only equipped with parking lights and some with no lights at all.
The ones with parking (daytime running?) lights are idiots: the ones with NO lights are morons!
That’s how you can tell them apart! 😀

Shouldn’t this thread be in Flight Simulation??
Just an aside, but I think Duxfords Hasting is a former Colerne aircraft. It came from the Skyfame Museum at Staverton, and if memory serves displayed the City of Bath crest on the cockpit side, when it arrived at Staverton/Duxford.(Colerne Squadrons received the freedom of the City in the 60s, hence the crest on the aircraft.)
Slight drift :Anybody know why Duxford didn’t apply the City of Bath arms on TG 528 on its last repaint? The silver doesn’t look right either!
I flew many flights on this particular Hastings, including the Zambia oil crisis, when on 24 Squadron at Colerne in the mid-60s. Sorry. no photos to hand (dreaded computer crash, etc ).
British C-130’s used to have ashtrays and no smoking signs!
When the Hercules first entered service there was a sign saying “Smoking permitted on the flight deck” on the overhead panel.
Permission to smoke was usually given by the captain, sometimes using the expression, “Gentlemen, we are now First Class”. We did have a Station Commander who was not popular on the flight deck as he was a non-smoker, and never gave the “lighting up” call.
Perhaps he should have been on board a Herc flight in the Middle East where the navigator forgot to turn off his oxygen supply before lighting up 😀
We NEVER smoked ‘down the back’
Nice memories there, Growler. Thanks for posting!
P.S. Should it not be Hercules 5-ship (small accounting error :D)
Great shots!
I like the China Cargo engine close-up with it all hanging out:D
Like the Mossie takeoff, too.
The DH formation is an unusual sight – thanks for posting!
Getting the ‘Threat detected’ message from Avast here, too. 😮

I just clicked the links and got straight to the interesting bits – so, yes!
Stops irritating pop-ups and in-page ads, too (but won’t stop idiot posts – that’s your job :D)
Some mind-blowing flying there, but don’t you hate having to sit through 30 seconds of ads before getting to the video?
Moggy
No 30 secs of adverts for me Moggy – try Adblock Plus. Works for me on Firefox:D
Great videos, great flying, too. Felt a little fragile during the third one though! 😮
