would it be possible to get a Javelin back in the air?

    Id love to see that!

😮 It was difficult enough when we had them in service!!

I’ll go with the Hastings – my old one at Dux is far to clean at the present time:D

He isn’t the only one who holds that opinion.
My late sister-in-law had previously flown to the USA from the UK on several occasions with other airlines including BA, Virgin and Delta. She later told me her next trip was about to be booked using AA.
Having seen an article somewhere in which, at that time, it was claimed that you were statistically more likely to lose your bag on American Airlines, I advised her against making that booking. Due to time/date constraints, she booked AA: yes, you’ve guessed – they lost her bag.

Great shots! (but why anybody would want to photograph a BLACK aeroplane in the dark is just a bit worrying!!).
    Thanks for sharing.

It is a shame that the Hastings wasn’t kept in better condition – I recall that Jacko Jackson occasionally used to run-up her engines therefore it seems sad that the aircraft was eventually allowed to deteriorate. When I’ve asked NAM guys about this before, they claim this was because it was given to an ATC Squadron to “look after” and they eventually just got bored with it?

I guess there’s no chance of ever getting the magnificent machine flying again after having sat there for so long. Shame though – would make a great cargo aircraft strangely enough! I only ever saw one in the air and that was over Ladybower when they flew one as a camera ship for a Lancaster flypast over the Derwent dams. Everyone was looking at the Lancaster but I was looking at the magnificent Hastings roaring round the hillside with the cargo door open – just brilliant!

I hope NAM get this hangar project moving soon. Be great to get the Hastings indoors, along with a few others. One big hangar and they could get all of the remaining outside exhibits under cover at last! Oh well, maybe folks will be more inclined to donate to such a project when they finally stop sending all the money to Dr Pleming’s retirement fund…

Or was that the para/entrance door that was open? The outwards-opening cargo door(s) were not flyable when open – we had to remove them both for large cargo drops which was a bit of a pain: this left a very large hole in the port side of the aircraft. However, it was good fun to stand at the rear of the aircraft (behind a curved barrier) to watch a load rolling down the tracks and then smartly disappearing through the aforesaid hole:D – a bit draughty though!!

Going through some old photos for my Pre-digital photos thread, I came across one of the Ju87 Stuka at Hendon. The next picture was a Ju88, and it struck me that unlike the Ju87 Stuka, Fw200 Condor and Ta154 Moskito, I’d never heard of that referred to by a name.

So what German aircraft had names and which were just numbers, and was this down to the aircraft manufacturer/designer or German Air Ministry?

According to JU88.net, the Ju88 was referred to as ‘Dreifinger’ which translates as ‘Three-finger’. Whether this was just an informal appellation or not, I have no idea.

A little harsh, maybe, but it beats me why people fly with this airline.

Because they are the only airline ‘serving’ the routes from my particular airport?

The alternative being a long drive to one of the major airports so that we can fly BA, etc is not economically viable (-even though some of Ryanair’s destination airports are some distance from the actual destination city). I have knocked Ryanair in the past:D but they do provide services that other airlines do not.

Layla – the Derek and the Dominoes version although, as it’s my mobile ringtone, it probably doesn’t qualify for this thread as I only get to hear the first few notes!:D
