The American ‘Flying’ magazine is hard to get hold of over here nowadays, but if you can get hold of the September 2005 issue, read ‘The Last Bax Seat’. Bax — who passed away in June — could always write very well, but this last one is particularly wonderful.
I think Steve might disagree with the Captain flying a 450 Stearman though 🙂
Thank you Snapper.
I bought a D60 off a certain other forum member at the beginning of the year. I’ve been extremely pleased with it, and I have occasionally managed to take some half decent pictures with it.
Even if it gets superceded, that doesn’t suddenly make it useless. A significant chunk of your investment will (should!) be in lenses, and they’ll continue to work on newer bodies.
Trumper — well pointed out. It’s been so long since I drove down that bit of the junction (used to live out Earith way and worked at the top end of Huntingdon Road) that I’d forgotten about that cut-through.
dhfan — ignore what I said, and listen to Trumper instead 🙂
dhfan — it’s a bit awkward to reach from the southbound carriageway. Your best bet is to continue onto the A14 ‘eastbound’ (where the A14 divides and one part forms the M11) then turn around at the next junction. Otherwise you go a fair old way down the M11, or into Cambridge and try to find somewhere to turn.
I shall be there too. If anybody would like a pickup from Cambridge railway station I’d be happy to oblige.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Clear skies and tailwinds, Steve.

Very good news Steve.
All the best — M
As promised, here’s the last lot of photos.
I didn’t catch who was flying the Yak …
Jerry Knight did a very nice job in the Harvard …
… and as always Maurice showed off Janie beautifully.
Y11F — yes, I haven’t put them all up yet. (I’ve made a mental note to do them this evening!)
Seeing how slowly they’re loading at work — they’re coming from the machine at home — I might have to try the Forum hosting for the other pictures.
Gazelle photos.
Did anybody go? If it was anything like the other RAeS lectures I’ve been to it will have been excellent.
I was planning to go, but Hurricane fettling kept me at the airport slightly longer than planned, and I couldn’t make it to the station in time 🙁
Yes, it was Stu Goldspink.
Friday Saturday and Sunday is the plan at the mo, assuming Met24 hasnt rented out his study floor to someone else that is!!
I might even clean the place before you arrive 🙂
I thought you were going to ask about … wait for it … swinging propellers.
I dusted off my whizwheel the other day when I decided I would do a flight without the GPS for a change. I was very chuffed to find I still knew how to drive it.
Now for the next great question: wind up or wind down?
Happy birthday to our newest Tiger pilot 🙂
