Who would have thought that campaign pictures of U.S. war dead and posters calling GWB a war criminal would figure in a German national election given the superior nature of German society and culture. I guess political gridlock and economic stagnation will be on the menu in Germany for sometime. 🙁
Sauron
Last time Bush stuck his head up from the putting green, I think he mumbled something about how “pulling out of Iraq now would make a weak America”, which can be translated to mean “this war got me the second term, Im not throwing it away now”. So US and Iraqis continue to die because Bush wants to drag this on. So yes I think pictures of US war dead do illustrate US foriegn policy.
Mao is tied for 1st place along with Fidel Castro for making left wing people look like idiots. Trying to make huge industrial/economic advances by use of clever technological shortcuts such as making steel foundrys in kitchen ovens. And then end up quietly begging the capitalist oppressors they publically rail against to give aid and invest in their pathetic horse driven economy.

Sauron- The reason that it appears odd that you defend the US is that the world faces severe problems of overpopulation and lack of resources which is getting worse by the passing day. If you were to critisize the lack of effort by western european nations to respond to world problems, I could respect that. But you are simply critisizing them for opposing the US, as though the US it is the best interest of the world to follow US leadership. That sort of makes you look silly because I think its obvious to everyone that the US is mostly out to make money. Thats not to say that we have to blame all the worlds problems on the US, but the US is certainly not holding solutions to world problems. It sort of makes you look like a cheap hanger on to the benefits of a US led world economy.

Sauron- I cant believe how pro-American you are, and Ive noticed you posting stuff like this for quite some time. Do you mind if I ask your personal opinion on the idea of Canada becoming part of the US?

And these enemy troops would have been floating on and under the sea would they, mixtec? 😉
Huh??
I think its very difficult to discuss “tactics” of the cold war, when really it was a war of ideology. For Example I dont think Hitler or anyone in Germany really pre-planned the idea of taking over all of Europe, the opportunity just sort of opened up to them as they experienced success with their eastern european expansion. If the USSR/Warsaw Pact somehow decided they could invade western europe, it probably would have have been a major invasion across a broad front, tac-nukes would have been used to some extent, but that would be limited by the fact that enemy troops would be dispursed amidst civilian population.
Thanks Danrh, I appreciate your being willing to scan stuff.
Thanks Croboto- What you tell brings up two important points, One that its difficult to differenciate pirate activity with that of regular naval warfare. And two that pirate history often gets pushed into the background when large scale wars are happen during certain eras.
Good thing I didn’t bother ordering it then!
I had enough problems with the original!
I havent got BoB2 yet, but I look forward to it trying it. I would like to comment on the bashing the original Rowans BoB gets. There are too many boneheads out there spouting off about the high standards they have for flight sims, and who trash the original BoB as too buggy to be playable. I would like to say that it is an old game that will not run on modern graphics cards, you have to run it on a system that uses shared memory. I ran it on a win 98, Duron 800 mhz with shared memory and it ran flawlessly. If the above poster had problems with the original, fine, all old games will have problems to some degree or another, but that shouldnt effect the game with an updated game engine. What really kills me is how guys get all ga ga over IL-2 and LOMAC when both those games pay for their so called high quality graphics by being resource hogs. Yes I am gratefull someone did the WW2 airwar on the russian front with high quality 3D aircraft models, but that game is not the end all.
And for those of you who are dumb enough to try and run the original BoB on winXP, please just stick with MS FS and dont bother your head about classic games.
Well this thread is off to a ripping start. Does anyone know if the USN or RN or other major navys use specialized training ships or do they start out in combat ships?
I recall there was a battle also when a small auxiliary carrier survived a very large japaneese attack. Unfortunately I dont have access to WW2 history books at the moment, so I cant look any of this up. I recall also that an american pilot in a critically damaged plane, decided to crash his plane into a japaneese cruiser and sank it. That might be how the japaneese got the idea that one dead pilot for a sunk enemy ship was a good tradeoff (kamakazi)
Ask the Romans about that. They did disprove your claim.
It is a similar thing with a cruiser and a destroyer. The destroyer may be faster and more agile, but against a superior warship it is never in control of the situation. (limited to the pre-SSM age)
The Romans trumped the tactic of ramming with an invention called the beak, which was a ramp that swiveled around and was hinged so that ramp could fall down on to a ship, and had a spike at the end of the ramp so that it stayed fasted to the ship. So they basically said, go ahead and ram us, will just board your ship, kill you, and watch our ship sink.
When you say favorite, I take that to mean the one aircraft I would want if I could only choose one to own my whole life. I would choose a motorglider, and I dont choose it because its the most affordable, I choose it because I would rather fly it over even my favorite jet fighters (if given only one choice of course). As too which motorglider I would pick, thats tough, it might be a modified Schwiezer 2-32.
