    RE: lonely planet

” thats a bit harsh, I think he is just trying to have a bit of fun. It is quite amusing when his sense of humour goes right over the heads of those he is making jokes with (at). Just shows that although laughter is universal, humour is not.”

Garry- Just for once Id like to see somebody be harsh with that guy, when he starts up his clown show, just have a group of people walk up to him and say buzz off…were not here to entertain you. I dont think his humor goes over anyones heads. People know millions of people watch his show and tourist dollars or culural relations value are too important to pass up. His attitude is to act like foreign cultures are just some kind of game park thats been assembled for him. This is the total opposite of what LP planet books do for people, they warn of all the problems and awkward things that can happen to a first time visitor so you dont waste time causing problems for youself or others. And they help you appreciate where people are at instead having to find this out by offending anyone.

As far as the LP tv show goes, I find that goofball british guy to be repulsive. I guess his dopey demeaner is supposed to be “cute” or something while amidst the exotic cultures. I simply cant watch it.

Impressive graphics, thanks Frank. I just made a huge public fool of myself forgetting SaveAs is under the file icon and a even bigger fool of myself drying to download a GIF onto my comp that wasnt part of a file.

Frankvw- Ive tried right clicking on a blank spot on the site, but SaveAs is greyed out on the window that pops up. Is there a more specifac way of doing this?

    RE: Firewalls & IP Addresses??????????????

Ive been thinking of the idea of putting linux on a partition on my HD and only using that as my drive to go on the internet. I figure that theres not much malicious garbage written for linux on the net or for linux browsers or other alternative browsers. And if anything does get in, it wont screw anything up except the OS which will be the only thing on that partition, and I can just format the partition and reinstall the OS. Will this work, or will viruses still affect other parts of my drive?

    RE: Firewalls & IP Addresses??????????????

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-01-03 AT 07:39 PM (GMT)]Im not a computer nerd or expert, but to know computer security means you have to know alot about hacking. Im guessing your a home user so you dont have any big concerns about being hacked as a bussiness would. Configuring a firewall is something you should leave to an expert, knowing what ports to close and leave open, configuring your OS (default settings are an open door) as well as updating it with the latest patches. A router is a good firewall and might be considered if your really security consious. Password cracking is still the nunber one way to gain access into any computer/network. Modems are also an easy point of entry. An IP address is an identification number your given on the internet. Any hacker who knows anything will get a fake one from an ISP with lack security, so your only going to catch the idiot hackers with it. Keep in mind most hackers are actually script kiddies which are basically punks who know almost nothing about computers and have just downloaded hacking tools in order to break in to computers or deny access. Fornuately the real hackers are to busy making money in the industry to waste their time on pranks.
