Spitfire Grip
Hold on chaps ! – there is a novice here trying to hang on by the fingernails to the thread. Round buttons , anodised..? Does it look like a real Spitfire grip or not, ( or is it not that straight forward 🙁 ) Please advise as I am easily confused
My friend also has a Mk 11 reflector gunsight for sale. Due to his rather complicated circumstances he would prefer me to represent his interests , (that was a poor choice in the first place 😉 )
Please forgive my lack of knowledge in this area, but my area of expertise stretches to playing darts, dodging the taxman and his henchmen and collecting German militaria, from foreign shores , which led me here…
If the general opinion is that the item is 100% then I can proceed with getting it into the UK.
Your opinions are very gratefully received , and I would only ask that you restrict the words to 2 syllables so that can keep up !
Jim
Grip
Initially I was going to buy it from him , but now I see that it is over my head price wise and i have offered to sell it on his behalf ( It is not in the UK at the moment) – It is from a trusted source and I will make no material gain from selling this oher than helping a friend. I can send better pictures please email for them on jim@battle-relics.co.uk
Thanks
Spitfire grip
Here is a picture of it. I have better pictures. Brake lever says J.D & S.B DP224
Whats the value as I have been asked to sell it for another person.:D
Thanks for that. Its a very log story, but if I buy it I will post the final thread.
Will keep you informed…. Will do a bit more digging !!
Its about 12 inches long. It has a rocker button. Its not a relic. It has a brake lever (?) and what appears to be two pipes/ cables running down from the top inside an alloy casting that flares out toward the bottom.
There is a brass bracket with a finger sized hole in it clamped to the lower part of the blade. The anti slip covering is all intact. It has some provenance.
Can you give me a ball park guide?
🙂
MOre infor to help – I think its a Junkers
Have cleaned away some more silt. The locks have a brass casting. There are the following numbers on these castings- read a previous thread about numbers on castings and found
1R 3115
and
Ju N 16410
Also saw some Ju 88 wreckage photos on ebay and there was an item identical to the triangular swivel mount amongst them.
Any Junkers expert who can put this to bed for me?
GERMAN AIRCRAFT PANEL FROM RUSSIA
HERES A BETTER PICTURE OF THE PANELS REVERSE SIDE – IT DIDN’T COME OUT OF A LAKE (BUT SOME OF HIs OTHER STUFF HAS..!) HE SAYS (roughly translated)
“This plane to fall close to the city of Pavlovsk. It approximately 15 Km. from Leningrad. After impact on the ground the planes scatter on many peices radius of about 100 metres. After war large parts have been collected to melt all. Now on this place only possible to find small peices. Old people to tell when they collected this scrap metal. This peice found this autumn”
Would live to know what its off – Anyone got a HE 111 they can lend me to look over !!! There is atrace of a black line on the painted side – may have been the edge of a number or insignia – and as such did it come off the side of the aircraft as opposed to the underside?
German Aircraft Panel more info.
Thanks for the quick reply !
It appears to have part of a hinge mechanism at one end, and a swivel type mounting for (something?) next to the hinge. It as a slightly convex section (rather than being entirely flat . It is in remarkable condition, considering its age. The aluminim aircraft skin has the number 111241 stencilled in ink in one place. The guy I bought it from normally sells me German stick grenades (inert!) and other military items that he fishes up from a lake near an old German camp in Russia with A SUPERMAGNET !
Everything else I ave bought from him has been correct and genuine, so I have a lot of confidence in this being WW2 and from a crashed German
aircraft BUT MORE HELP NEEDED!
Thanks
