Sky Shooter…Hmmm..it was before I went rotary I think so probably between 1970 and 78. I will have a closer search when I can get the step ladder out!
Shame that the pictures that started this thread got deleted. I have only just picked up on this thread but loved the intrigue of the Victor. Indeed I got investigated by the RAF after writing an article about its development for Air Pictorial once. They visited my home to ask where all the info came from but went away none the wiser. No internet in those days!
Great…anyone got a spare July 1991 copy??
One reason why French aircraft are uncommon in UK museums is because it is so difficult to find out who to talk to and who can make decisions. Be interesting to know how YAM broke through ” le tape rouge “.
Iconic helicopter ID?
How about G-LYNX…….the world speed record Lynx helicopter.
This was actually the worlds first electric aeroplane, the Buzz Lightning built in 1934 .It came to grief whilst the pilot was attempting to plug it in to the PPS (pole power source). Afterwards they adapted the technique to airships and also to gate guardians ,including helicopters.u
Well we know the previous Director of the RAFM had little time for the BAPC and the independent museum sector but I would expect better of his successor . What’s so hard about circulating all BAPC members through their secretary and asking for those interested in recovering parts for use on other Comets or individual display?
That way the DH Trust and others might have benefitted as well as the Boscombe down team.
Well I went thinking of buying a Gem engine and a Lynx main gearbox but at £1200 as the best price for an engine and £800 for a gearbox plus 20percent VAT plus 7.5 percent service charge and hiring transport to move them within seven days decided it was too expensive a deal.
The Sea King was nice but let’s face it there will be a lot more coming up in the next few years. Softly softly catchee monkey!
I logged in this morning after some initial delay but prices were quite steep. The Harrier simulators failed to sell at £30,000 best offer .One Sea King tail blade at £60 plus vat and hammer price,Gem engines at £1200 with no paperwork and Aztazous even more. Lynx main gear boxes heads fetching £800 ……all cheap compared with new but putting the cost of rebuilding a complete Lynx pretty high. The hulks come up tomorrow….along with complete sets of blades for Sea King, Lynx and Gazelle , and Pegasus engines.
The Lynx are all hulks and all but one of the RN aircraft even have the landing gear removed. Scrap value only really but you could buy gearboxes, blades etc in separate lots to put one together maybe.
So where has the rest gone? Would be good to buy and save the fin for example.
This is being used in a film to represent a Wessex, hence the colour scheme.

There are also plans to revive The Great Weston Airday at Weston-super-Mare on 22nd June,in conjunction with the helicopter Museum and the town council.
Just for the record I assume this was the aircraft that flew out of Filton after overhaul a couple of days before the airfield closed in December ….don’t know the serial but lots of enthusiasts will,so don’t all rush at once !
