The Raptor in the pics has an Edwards AFB serial, so I am guessing it is one of the late EMD airframes. As for the location, it doesn’t look like a flat arid region or desert, so that would pretty much rule out Nellis and Edwards, so it could be Tyndall. Never been there so I am not sure.

    Absolutely FABULOUS photos!! 🙂

I don’t know if it was posted but these are the pictures are when the F/A-22 stopped off at Boeing Plant in Seattle, WA…I think.

Aerial refueling could also give away your position :D. I invision a nice flame out the back when the residual fuel left in the line from the refueling probe goes in the the intake.

For that matter the whole line 😮

“Early risk reduction sensor pod”? Are they going to give everything in the F-35 a name like that?

If then, the engine will be called the “Cold air suction device to add fuel and heat so you can go forward”, the rudders are the “Point where you go-plates”, and i’m sure people interested in phrases like an ‘early risk reduction pod’ will also prefer the name dashboard for what geeks call a cockpit.

    LOL! nice

The biggest problem with USAF and I think it’s safe to same to some extend the USN is that their dependance on AWACS. The USAF and USN pilots depend way too much on them and as we know that most F-15 pilots for example will never even use their on board sensors and will always get info from AWACS.
Yes they know how to use their onboard sensors, they are taught how to use it in case AWACS go down or are unavailable, but they do not seem to be very good at it.

As it seems, the F-15 pilots after Cope India complained how they did not have any AWACS support.

    Huh?
I would bet money that most nations would love to have an AWACS network. When the fighters don’t have to turn on their sensors they have an advantage. Most of the dissimilar training is done with one hand tied behind their back…this goes for both sides.

That is a good question. Especially considering it is a Tomcat. (flamesuit on) 😀

“Anyone taken the time and/or care to actually ask a F-14 pilot what s/he thinks of the SH?

Instead we all have our preconcieved notions and droll on and on into super borenetdom.”

You can find an interesting article comparing both on http://www.flightjournal.com/articles/f14f18/f14f18_1.asp

    Regards,

That column is a wee bit biased since, ‘Bob Kress is an aeronautical engineer and, during his long career at Grumman, he was directly involved in the development of the F-14 Tomcat’.

    I know Kress personally.

Yeahyeahyeah, that article could have been written by me. Dunderheads and jelly-spined career hounds in the officers corps ruining the military!

And Kress worked for whom? 😀

Wow thanks guys! A tally of the MiG-25 kills would be interesting but probably not possible 😀

I remember reading or was told that the F/A-18 and MiG-25 incident may have been a collision, but a kill is a kill.

I have no pictures at the moment but I did come across some F-16 Bumber Stickers jokes on my HD 😀

You guys have probably read them as they apply to several airframes…imho.

Not to drift too far off topic but…

Wasn’t the downing of the F-117 blamed on planning (same flight pattern at the same time) and that the pilot didn’t follow procedure, i.e., bomb doors open and flight profile changes made for a nice size target.

I remember reading that the F-22 will be capable of carrying external weapons and fuel when its mission don’t require stealth. Nice photo of the MERs
