Dude, retro-chic is all the rave in airforces these days. It’s kinda like 80’s music being fashionable over the last couple of years.

First the Brazilians introduce a prop fighter in form of the Super Tucano, and now the Pakistani’s introduce glider fighters.

Next the USAF will introduce AMRAAM armed hot air balloons, after they cancel the horrifically overpriced F-22 and the overweight F-35 Aardpiglet.

Atleast it will be able to take down the LCA gliding anytime

    Rd-93 is likely.

other options are perhaps a chinese modified engine ?, French M53-P2 (somewhat same dimensions), US option is also available now. Since their are now official rapports (except doubhtfull rumours) and the “production facility” in pakistan recently opened , it seems all is going well on schedule.

You should have asked the question in the PAF threadh, more efficient.

Well I remember reading a few months ago on this very forum that the Grifro S7 was not ready yet and perhaps a Chinese radar would be used, a scaled down version of the Chinese radar of the J-10 perhaps…. Have they managed to tackle the S7 issue now or is it a confirmed Chinese radar?

the fist 50 will have chinese avionic system and j-10 radar (Kl-10?). Later on likely a Sagem avionics suit. Grifo isnt ready because they want 4 targets tracking instead of 2, they supposedly upgraded their requirements. I think that and other upgrades perhaps “buddy linking” (Erieye, E-2).

About the cockpit, i think i posted this before but this is the proposed sagem cockpit

Two things – The F-16 sale will not be halted.

Secondly, Gary Ackerman is an elected representative and not a lobbyist. He is a member of the Congressional India Caucus. He might likely introduce a bill next week and it will probably hit the floor of the house as an amendment to some other bill and will be quietly defeated because the Bush administration has already got the buy in of majority Republican leaders.

Ackerman and others know this but the bill will be brought to the floor to set a precedent and put the issue on record, in case it is necessary at a later date. Most likely some kind of language would be added to say – “WE don’t object to the F-16s provided the President can certify that Pakistan is cooperating in the war on terror and is not involved in nuclear proliferation and that the F-16s are not used for aggression.”

People forget that when Congress passed the infamous Pressler Amendment, it was in 1985 and it was intended to continue aid to Pakistan but with strings. In 1985, US could not give aid to a nation that was simply developing nuclear fuel but Pressler’s legislation changed that to say aid can be given as long as weapon is not manufactured. The law was used six years later.

For now, the F-16s are a done deal.

Talking about nucleair proliferation again, it seems everyone is doing it nowadays.

U.S. reveals Pakistan and India bought banned parts

    New York Times
    Apr. 9, 2005 12:00 AM

WASHINGTON – Federal prosecutors investigating the smuggling of nuclear technology disclosed Friday that a South African businessman has pleaded guilty to arranging illegal exports of American-made equipment both to Pakistan and its regional rival, India.

Asher Karni, an Israeli who lives in South Africa, entered the guilty plea in September and has been cooperating with investigators, prosecutors said. The prosecutors kept the proceeding secret until Friday, however, when they unsealed the plea agreement and charges they have brought against Humayun Khan, an Islamabad businessman with longstanding ties to Pakistan’s military. Khan is said to be Karni’s partner.

As part of Karni’s plea agreement, he acknowledged that he also was involved in 2002 in selling sophisticated electronic equipment to government agencies in India, some of which are involved in nuclear-weapons and missile research. It is not clear whether the goods he sold were useful for actually making nuclear weapons.

Also about Pakistan’s contribution to FC-1, people seem to think a genuine question is flaming. Now UAE for instance had used its past experiences to ask Lockeed Martin for making a super-duper version of F-16 – Blk 60. Similarly, TAI of Turkey manufactures F-16 under license and I believe incoroporated some minor changes for both Turkish and Egyptian orders. Does this mean they are “joint” production. From what we can see so far, China has been very generous in making a fighter for Pakistan thanks to its close alliance. My buddy from work has 2 choppers – custom built Harleys. He is an outdoor freak and gave orders to incorporate some cool ideas in the bikes, but a local chopper garage built them. Does this mean he is co-producing HArleys? But Pak guys seem to be thumping chests without any substance behind it. CAll it flame or whatever but fact is fact.

hmm you can say all the bs you want, but fact remains that pakistani, Chinese officials said often that pakistani researchers were working together with Chinese ones on the Fc-1, not as much as chinese ofcourse, but worked they did on the fighter as hard as their capabilities let them, their was pakistani input. Fact is that they will learn alot from the project. I assume that they did their job as much as the Indian scientist did on the LCA, Brahmos. Call it flame or whatever but fact is fact 😀

There was a model behind musharaf at the launch ceramony, Geo had a pic close up. This can possibly tell what major redesign in the intake shape finally look like but hard to say from pic.

The Intakes cant be seen from this pic, also its unlikely that they already would incoperate the latest modifications in an model

    MA,

I asked a specific question – What are the possible reasons for a larger intake at this late stage and could an engine change be the reason. If you want to avoid that question, fine. Different engines require different intakes and it is one good reason I feel.

Boota came in and said some BS instead of answering the question.

as i said the guy who said that the intakes were going to be changed a bit, also mentioned it was being done to get better performance at M>1.5  . If it was just another engine, they wanted to a bigger/lesser inflow they didnt need to change the shape if its good.

F-16: US team due next month

    By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, March 30: US ambassador Ryan C. Crocker on Wednesday said a technical team would arrive here next month to discuss specifics related to the sale of F-16s to Pakistan.

Mr Croker was talking to newsmen soon after launching the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)-funded Poverty Alleviation Programme. The USDA has given a $25 million grant to the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund for the project.

Mr Crocker did not mention the exact date of arrival of the US technical team and said that it would be here next month to finalize the sale of F-16 jets. He said the $3 billion assistance announced by President George Bush in the summer of 2003 for Pakistan was getting under way this year. Under the programme Pakistan would get $600 million annual tranche equally divided between military and economic.

However, Mr Crocker said the US was also helping Pakistan apart from the main package. That’s why, he said, the overall assistance for the current year had touched $700 million.

He said the US wanted strong and “full-scale strategic relationship” with Pakistan. The importance the US attached to its relations with Pakistan could be gauged from the fact that Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice visited the country just two months after taking her new office, the ambassador maintained.

Replying to a question, he said Kashmir “is an old and difficult issue”. However, the over-all progress on the issue was encouraging. The launching of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service would provide an opportunity to the Kashmiris on both sides to meet, he said.

Earlier, speaking at the ceremony, Mr Croker said the USDA had awarded $25 million to the PPAF because of the good work it had performed during such as short time. The important message of the US assistance was not only economic growth but social development also, he added.

The problem is, while Pakistan is ATTEMPTING to do this, India HAS ALREADY BEEN DOING THIS for last two decades. Your nationalism has blinded your minds, you fail to see how quickly the world has moved forward leaving you behind.

You should have started with such attempts back in early eighties, today you might have been harvesting first fruits of such effort. But yes, ‘security’ was more important.

what has indian already been doing ? They cant even make up their minds about buying some planes. Now the F-16 sales are cleared they are in a hurry to buy 12 mirages from UAE ? Devlopment of LCA is just as far as the development of the Jf-17. But the induction of the Jf-17 will be much sooner. Seems to me that pakistan gets things done quicker. Till now they didnt have any choice for buying a BVR platform (expensive, sanctions) unlike India who got supplied buy its “allies”.

Nationalism seems to have blinded both sides. So people lets just move on. Instead of exchanging ” our views” focus on reality (indian aswell as pakistanis).

Golden Arrow pls stop posting from other sites/forums comments which you think people of AFM made, dont flame

I have to agree with Flex, although for Pakistan the Block 52 will be a leap ahead, It doestn outperform some already present fighters in the area. And 24 is just the beginning order, there are reports saying +- 70. Also keeping in mind the US didnt place any restrictions on the numbers.

I wonder how you gonna back this BS up… F-16 Block 52 is a totally average fighter aircraft in today’s world, light years away from any quantum leap in capabilities.

    Get a life, buddy…

well for pakistan it will be some kind of a leap , a leap into the BVR world. But indeed lets keep it to the news and let land the birds first, nothing is sure till then.
