Albania still operates Mig-15’s and Mig-17’s, or at least they did as of last year.

I think Honduras still flies F-86’s.

The ministry of finance gave the military 3 billion dinars (about 50 million dollars) in addition to the military budget, which is where the money for this modernization comes from.

To answer your questions, 1 An-26 is being overhauled which should last until 2015, but after that I don’t know what will happen. I assume they will buy something to replace it with. Serbia was left with the former Yugoslavia’s entire transport fleet, which was very large and way too big for Serbia’s current needs.

The Mi-24’s and Mi-17’s are being overhauled and modernized along with the Mig-29’s and An-26, according to this article from today:

Serbia to invest EUR30 m. in fighter planes’ overhaul

    Belgrade, 18:55

Serbia will invest EUR30 million in overhauling and modernization of six fighter planes and military helicopters, Serbian Finance and Defense Ministers, Mlagjan Dinkic and Zoran Stankovic announced today.

The presented the National Investment Plan for Defense, due to be executed by end 2007, at the military airport Batajnica.

The new plan foresees overhauling of five fighter jets Mig-29, one transport plane An-26 two gunships Mi-24 and five transport helicopters.

Dinkic stated that the draft of budget rebalance provides for allocating additional 3 billion dinars for the military purposes. In addition, it was decided to increase the salaries of the Army and Defense personnel by 20 percent.

“The National Investment Plan is aimed at recovering of the Serbian Army’s dignity”, Dinkic said, adding that the Government’s objective is to achieve full professionalization of the Serbian Army by 2010, “with adequate rewarding of those protecting the homeland”.

Why do they operate three types of fighters? Especially the F-7 which is a very poor air to ground platform.

What’s so big about that, doesn’t at least one of the An-26’s still fly regularly?

Not that it matters, but the Katyusha rockets Hizbollah is using are not 40 years old. They are very recent artillery produced in Syria and Iran.

If a mother raises her son to be a suicide bomber, is she REALLY innocent? I think not. Suicide bombers don’t usually decide to be suicide bombers on their own. Their families encourage them. If a terrorist commits terrorism, I think it is justifiable to find his family and kill them. I think that is perfectly justifiable (with the exception of small children). Remember when terrorists in Lebanon kidnapped some Russians about 15 years ago? The KGB found out who they were, and located their families and kidnapped them, and sent parts of the terrorists’ families bodies to them. The terrorists immediately released the Russians unarmed and never kidnapped Russians again. These guys are not afraid of death, they WANT to die so that they will go to Allah and get their 72 virgins. If they are not afraid of death for themselves, maybe they will be afraid for their families.

I find it interesting you choose to use the term “murder” to describe the Lebanese civilian deaths. If warplanes target military targets and kill civilians by accident, is it really murder? Remember when NATO bombed a radio station in Serbia and killed dozens of people who worked there? They said it was a legitimate military target. THey also bombed a train on a bridge full of people, then tried to hide it by rolling the tape in fast motion to make it seem like the train appeared out of nowhere. Where was the outcry then? But when Muslims are killed, there is a huge outcry. I guess there is nothing politically incorrect about killing Serbs because we’re white Christian oppressors, so the liberal PC crowd doesn’t care.

The Muslims are hte ones committing murder. What is worse, when Israel targets military targets and hits civilians by accident, or what Hizbollah INTENTIONALLY targets civilians with their Katyushas? Gee that’s a tough one.

I saw it too. Hizbollah says a F-16 was shot down but Israel is saying the thing falling down is a package of propaganda pamphlets.

To me it doesn’t like like a box of pamphlets but it doesn’t look like a plane shot down either. Maybe a small UAV?
