But why weren’t Mig-29’s designed with wingtip launchers? The F-16 has them.
Sounds like Slavophobic propaganda to me.
Why don’t all Mig-29’s have them?
Good for Canada, but something is terribly wrong with these prices. How could this cost $10 billion?
$3 billion for 4 aircraft plus another $4.6 billion for some heavy lift aircraft?
Then $1.1 billion for trucks…
Seriously, quit opening so many Serbian threads, we already have like 3.
Wow, what a lot of jumping to conclusions here. Who said anything about F-16’s? Even if they do purchase American (a big if) it doesn’t mean it will be F-16’s. It could be the F-18 or even the F-35.
Purchasing F-16’s makes no sense because the Mig-29’s, after they are overhauled, will not be obsolete for at least as long as an F-16. Especially if they are modernized and if more airframes are bought (we don’t know yet).
That’s not true, in the 50’s the US subsidized Yugoslavia’s purchase of lots of F-86’s and F-84’s.
The best strike fighter is without a doubt the J-22 Orao.
Just saw England play and MAN DO THEY SUCK!! They won 1-0 only because Paraguay scored on their own goal, it should be 0-0. If they suck this bad against a mediocre team, they will get massacred when they face a better team.

The former Yugoslavia had the third biggest shipbuilding industry in the world according to this: http://reference.allrefer.com/country-guide-study/yugoslavia/yugoslavia103.html
Some capability was lost when it broke up but a lot should still be intact.
Entirely untrue, during the cold war it was more like 80%. The entire country devoted all it had to the military, that’s why the living conditions were worse than most African countries. In fact the military was the single biggest employer in that time. Read some books about Albania in the cold war, it’s well known.
The modernisation included:
1. IFF BAE Systems AN/APX-113
2. Rockwell Collins AN/ARC-120 digital radio
3. Rockwell Collins AN/ARN-147 VOR/ILS receiver
4. Rockwell Collins AN/ARN-154 digital TACAN receiver
5. MIL-STD-1553B
6. Russian Avionics MFI-54 Multi functional colour display
7. Russian Avionics PUS-29 control panelThat is therfore $5,8 Million per airplane, without new radar, weapons etc.
That costs 5.8 million dollars?! Just for some radios and transmitters and screens? You could buy equipment like that at radio shack for probably under a thousand dollars (not the exact same obviously but the same level of technology). Someone is making a killer profit somewhere…
For some reason, our Mig-29’s have always looked uglier to me than some other countries’ Mig-29’s. I can’t figure out why, maybe it’s the paint scheme or maybe they’re just not shined up nice or something.
Just because a country doesn’t have a threat from another country, doesn’t mean its AF is useless. Its planes could still be invaluable in the ground attack role against terrorists. You can never know where terrorists will pop up.
A ship as big and heavily armed as the Kotor class frigate would probably cost 200 million dollars, if it was new. It carries SS-N-2C, SA-N-4, and SA-N-5 missiles. So I don’t think they will just leave them to Montenegro when Montenegro’s contribution to the defense budget has always been something like 5%. Same with the large submarines.
