Can these two ships not be used as amphibious assault ships? I thought that was part of their design?
Its impressive to be sure, but I don’t think it would be of use to an Air Force pilot with no previous experience landing on an aircraft carrier.

I have heard/read(?) that the F/A-18E could be landed “hands free” on a CV, but I cannot imagine that is the case. I just can’t see a pilot sitting there as a passenger while landing on a ship.
