How so?
Those steam cats or an EMALS type system on CV90?
Any chance the Japanese will build full sized aircraft carriers? CATOBAR or otherwise?
[QUOTE=FBW;2377107]It was always a helicopter carrier. It’s function is as a ASW carrier (technically an ASW destroyer) with a disaster relief secondary mission. The Canberra class also “look” like carriers but are LHD with a secondary disaster relief mission (or the HMS Ocean for that case). It could, with modifications, operate F well said.
The French certainly got the most out of what they had.
[QUOTE=Jonesy;2376699]True enough comparing to STOBAR operations. The same doesnt quite apply to STOVL though. Deck pitching of the CVS and Hermes and visibility at times in the south atlantic in 1982 have been often commented on as severe enough to have prevented CATOBAR ops and the Harriers kept on flying. The was a notable exercise up north also where one CVS skipper hid in a fjord and launched a Harrier strike with zero wind over deck….to surprise the hostile force who believed he’d need to be offshore to get the room to generate his strike. Ok, to start I mean no disrespect here, in fact I have also heard herd the same thing about the 1982 South Atlantic war myself for years. But, I’ve never had a source. What I mean is, was there a study about this? (the sea states being too great to operate CATOBAR but STOVL was able) Did they mean CATOBAR off a Hermes sized ship or a Forrestal/Nimitz? If so, how long did this unfortunate state last? Really just kind of curious about this and mean no ill will. Interestingly, weather conditions did impact CATOBAR operations on the 2nd of May 25 De Mayo could not get a strike off because the winds were too light.
My comment is not rude at all.
Yes. It is. But don’t worry. You wont bother me again.
Rude.
A poster puts some work into a post and you just make some flippant one word remark to try and cut them down.
And your comment is less rude how? I guess we’re cut from the same cloth.
What?
I do see a precedent for combined RN/RAF air ops that predate JFH and Corporate. In the 70s when the rundown of RN big carrier operations got underway and Ark was all that was left, I understand the RN Phantom and Buc sqdrns were based at RAF stations and a good portion of the aircrew were RAF?
Buitreaux, with Brazil getting rid of Sao Paulo will that put any preasure on Argentina to retire the Super Etendard?
[QUOTE=Stonewall;2374465]You can scrap the Sao Paulo, the Brazilian Navy has officially announced she will be decomissioned: [url]http://www.defesaaereanaval.com.br/desmobilizacao
Will this finnaly force Argentina to can their Super Etendards and Trackers?
If that’s the case why can’t the Army have combat jets?
Kill it from the get go. have a program for the Air Force for a F-24, for the Navy a F-25 and an F/V-26 for the Marines/RN.
Wonder if the Skyhawks are going to be sold off? Were they all upgraded?
