I am registered for G-VFWE with the Super Cub and hope to be there on the Friday, with Saturday and Sunday booked as “weather days”.

Quiberon is a lovely place to visit – I have been there on a number of occasions in several different aircraft and have always had a warm welcome. Not sure if I’ll get that far this time but you never know!

The 2nd of April is fine for me…

I’d very much like to visit Elvington. As Sundays are usually better for me, perhaps we could consider the 2nd or 9th of April?

Probably better to avoid Easter (14th to 17th April) as people are more likely to be committed to family arrangements then.

Some general pieces of advice for any possible aircraft share purchase:

Have a flight with one of the current group members and see if you like the ergonomics, speed, apparent ease of handling etc. of the aircraft in question.

Talk to anyone you meet who has any involvement with a similar aircraft.

Take a close look at the way the group’s finances are set up. There should be an engine fund tied to the hourly rate which allows for the engine reaching rather less than the manufacturer’s TBO. Remember that, generally speaking, everything about an aircraft costs more than you anticipate! If the monthly fixed charge plus one hour’s flying come to much more than an hour’s hire from your local club for an aircraft of similar performance, you need to ask yourself whether you will fly enough hours to make the investment in the share worth while.

The down-side of sharing an aircraft is that you are jointly liable for any expenses that the existing funds can’t cover. In the event of significant engine or structural work being needed, this could prove very painful.

If you find the right aircraft/group to share, it is certainly a great way to build hours, share experiences and continue to learn once you have your PPL.

Sorry folks, I can’t make the 25th – prior arrangements and all that. A great shame as I could have made the 26th and Elvington is on my list of places to fly to one day.

Still, you can’t please all of the people all of the time…

I’ll watch this space for the next one!

We came, we saw, we missed you guys!

After a delayed start due to low cloud and local snow flurries, I did manage to reach Leicester at 13:30 in a C172, with Super Guppy as self-loading cargo. One very cold refuelling session in a sleet shower later, we finally reached sanctuary in the warmth of the bar just in time to watch the departure of the “Trainer Flight”.

It was good to meet ‘neal h’ and a pleasant surprise to find that the fly-in had succeeded in bringing together a reasonable number of Forumites, despite the weather’s best efforts to the contrary.

We set off at 14:55, just as the next nasty sleet shower hit the field, but had a very nice (and very much quicker!) run back to Popham in excellent visiblilty.

    Here’s to the next one!

I have now booked a Cessna 172 for the day and, weather etc. permitting, intend to fly to Leicester, bringing Super Guppy as a passenger.

Yes, I’d be there…..can’t think of any clever remark to go with this…fly vintage and spam, nose and tail (not together), not rich or smug, just glad to get into the air now and then.

Couldn’t have put it better myself so I thought I’d just pinch your wording!

Count me in for the 26th of February at Leicester, weather permitting. Unfortunately, I am already spoken for on the 5th of March.

Of course there is also the “Wing Commander’s Landing” – one which bounces halfway across the airfield. So called as only a Wing Commander could get away with such a poor show!

I fly from Blackbushe, Popham and Thruxton so somewhere in the Midlands would br fine for me. Leicester is fairly central…

I agree that the “Free Landing Fees” idea is a little less practical but mainly because of the limited notice that would allow for those hiring aircraft and for those that need to book time-off from their nearest and dearest!

Similarly, although I love farm strips, I would suggest that we look for somewhere fairly “main stream” to allow those with less experience to attend.

There is only one aircraft on the list for me – a Chipmunk, of course!

As for others not on the list the list, I’d have to set off on a flying spree with the aim of getting my hands on as many types as possible before deciding on just one. Sounds like a good excuse for a lot of fun…

    Gromit,
    Thanks for the link!
I’m looking for info mainly on the T-7/T-8 examples,do you happen to have a list for them as well?

DennisK – Sorry, I don’t have anything specific to your search. I can only sugest a slow trawl through Google on the off-chance of turning up something more relevant.
