Fantastic pictures, the long exposure shot is brilliant!
What I really would like to know is where these MANPADS used are coming from? The Iranian supply line has been mentioned but can we really believe that. It is a possibility but until concrete evidence is brought to light, it can only be an assumption. So who else could be supplying the insurgency with such anti-aircraft weapons? These groups seem to be well equipped so it could be that they have contacted black market suppliers for their needs. Saudi Arabia could be a possibility but that is doubtful until more evidence is brought forward. What about Syria, that could be another channel where such weapons could have found their way to insurgents in Iraq.
The Americans need to do a lot more than simply change their tactics of how they fly around the theatre of operations.
In all truth and reality, how capable is this aircraft if you were to compare it to anything the Indian Air Force flies today? I mean, the FC-1 aircraft seems to be a machine which was quickly thrown together for Pakistan to supplement an ageing fleet until the Pakistani military could figure out what they were going to do to replace their ageing F-16s and the remainder of their Cold War relics. A rather large acquisition programme with the US government has or is being negotiatied for new late generation Fighting Falcons. But if I remember correctly, thsi is only for seventy frames. What is a country like Pakistan going to do with 70 F-1ts against a country which already aligns twice that amount in Su-30s? At this point, Pakistan would almost be better off to simply back out of this deal and go elsewhere to purchase the aircraft it needs to provide security from a foe which is consistantly increasing its order of battle.
What about the Gripen, wouldn’t it be a more viable option? Or what about going directly to Russia and buying a few late generation Mig-35s? These might be slightly more expensive but maybe, they could be a better option than an aircraft which has been plagued with delays since its inception.
If NG plans on having the planes built in France, then, unfortunatly, they dont have a chance.
Only the airframe will be built in France. The rest of the mission equipment will be manufactured and installed in the United States at EADS’s Alabama facility.
Some feel the Triple-7 is still a viable option for this programme. I am not so easily convinced. Boeing wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of doing everything they could to keep the 767 assembly line opened if all of a sudden they thought the Triple-7 was a better system to offer the USAF. After all, the Triple-7 would be a better machine than the much older 767 and maybe even to the KC-330. The problem here, and I might be wrong, is that this seems to me to be a short term acquisition programme meaning that the USAF expects to take delivery of their aircraft quickly to replace the oldest KC-135 airframes. Development of the Triple-7 would probably take a while to be able to include a refuelling system inside the airframe. I am not saying that it is impossible, with the Triple-7 freighter well on its way to production, that would be the most likely variant used for this applicatiion. However, it would most likely take a couple of years to integrate all systems needed before a first flight could be achieved.
Could we for example see a first contract awarded to Boeing for the smaller KC-767 to supplement the existing fleet and then, once the Triple-7 freighter is ready, could we see the second acquisition programme favor the 777Fas a much higher capacity aircraft to fill out this requirement?
Or will the US Air Force cuts its losses and go directly to an evaluation of the KC-30 and the KC-767 to see if they can get a first tranche in service in the next year to eighteen months? According to newsreports, contract awarding is supposed to take place sometime around the end of the year.
I just watched two movies in the last couple of days which I thought were interesting.
The first one was Crank with Jason Statham, who is quickly becoming a favorite actor of mine. This movie is a no brainer. Don’t expect Oscar worthy performances from anyone but rather senseless fun. The stories goes around a mob hitman who’s services are no longer required by his employers. So they decide to poison him with a Chinese cocktail of goodies which will slow down his heart and finally plunge him into a coma from which there is no coming back. The rest of the movie is him leaving a path of destruction around Los Angeles as he battles to avenge his untimely end. As I said, this is no Oscar winner, but it will draw a few laughs and you won’t get bored. All in all a good little movie.
The second one was Running Scared with Paul Walker. Again, no Oscar winner but a movie worth seeing. It focuses on a small time crook who works for a crime syndicate in New York and who is in charge of making used weapons in hits and other business deals disappear once they are no longer needed. Unfortunately, one of those guns goes missing and he has to race against time in order to protect his employer and his family. Good little movie on which I won’t say anymore. Enjoy if you decide to check it out.
Cheers to all!:)

Ford made it clear a couple of days ago the sale had not been finalized with any company who had taken part in the bidding process. LVMH therefore does not appear to be the next owner of Aston Martin. According to the Ford Motor Company, the unveiling of Aston’s new owner will be made once the deall will have been completed.

I just watched 2 Fast 2 Furious… What an absolutely horrible movie to watch. The only good thing about it were some of the cars they used and Eva Mendes. The original with Vin Diesel was already painful enough to watch but this one was torture!

According to a report on CNBC this morning, Lybia will be buying 13 to 18 Rafale (Or Rafaele, according to the newscast 😀 ) from Dassault Aviation for 3.2 billion dollars. Does anyone have any information which might correlate this story?
I wasn’t saying the C-17 was a bad choice. Personally, I think the Globemaster III is an incredible aircraft with a vast range of capabilities which will be of some use to the CF. What I was trying to see was if the Canadian government had other options such as maybe buying C-5A frames which would have received similar upgrades as the ones implemented on the C-5M project.
Beautiful shots all around. Although I find it strange that a B-2 would be launched from Nellis AFB. I figured they could just as easily launch missions in support of Red Flag from Whiteman AFB.
As much as this capability is needed, was the C-17 the right choice. What about upgraded C-5Ms. According to a report I recently read, there was a study made by the US Department of Defense to see is purchasing a new batch of C-17s would be cheaper than having the entire fleet of Galaxies upgraded. Would the C-5M have been a cheaper option or was time a factor in the decision to go forward with acquisition of these aircraft.
And does having four C-17s really make a difference? I mean with attrition and other factor involved, the Canadian military would never be able to transfer more than two or three MBTs at any one time. I think the 3.2 billion dollars could have been better spent!
Great shot of the Monarch 757!
