It is interesting to see that the F-16 continues to maintain a stronghold on the market even when the Eurofighter and the Rafale are coming of age. You would figure that with Turkey trying to gain a membership with the EU, its government would try to bring a little business to Europe or even France, one of it’s strongest opponent in the matter. This might sway France’s government to change their view on the matter!

This seriously becoming a large problem for EADS and Airbus. Repeated delays can’t be good for business. Not only will this hurt the A380 program, but what about the other program Airbus has on the plate. The A350 fiasco already hurt them a great deal and I can’t see this doing them any Favours. At this point, I could Airbus loosing a lot of its customers and taking a few years to regain the success it had encountered late in the nineties and until two years ago.
This isn’t about the aircraft not performing otherwise, we might have seen some companies asking for a redesign or improvements to be made on the aircraft. This seems to be, if I understood this correctly, a design flaw which prevents certain cabin designs to fit inside the fuselage due to the position of the wiring. Eventually, EADS and Airbus will find a solution to this nagging problem but by then, could it be too late for the program? Maybe, maybe not, that remains to be seen. As long as Airbus can keep those interested in the program aboard, then the aircraft and the company doesn’t really have anything to worry about. Singapore ordering more A380s and the redesigned A350 during Farnborough I thought was a vote of confidence for Airbus. I do agree these delays are starting to hurt the manufacturer but considering the enormity of the project and the apparent demands made by some of the customers, some delays and headaches were bound to take place eventually.
It is unfortunate to see this happen. Airbus had come a long way and now it seems to have completely lost the momentum it had gained in the last decasde or so. But in my opinion, I think one man and his arrogance could be blamed for this. Noel Forgeard allowed his thirst for his own success to get ahead of the manufacturer’s true objectives.

I believe that the US government has finally realized the need to upgrade the A-10 was a pressing matter which could no longer be ignored. The environment which the aircraft is required to fight in today, i.e. the Middle East for the time being, doesn’t require much in terms of improvements in its ability to defend itself as the threat levels it encounters are relatively low. Maybe, eventually, a better suite of systems will be required if the Warthog is required to soldier on for a few years more.
However, its capability to deliver precision munition was lacking and needed to be addressed quickly. In support of troops on the ground either in Afghanistan or Iraq requires immaculate precision to avoid friendly fire losses. Aside from assault helicopters such as the Apache or the Cobra, in many ways, the A-10 is the best CAS machine available. The upgrades presently administered on the aircraft will make it a much more serious customer to deal with for the enemy. The added capability to carry JDAM, WCMS and other precision guided munition will allow pilots to do their job without having to worry about killing friendly forces as much.

Taking a look at the Eurocopter website has some good information on the NH90 helicopter.

Great Pictures whats the MSN?

    James

MSN, if I am not mistaken, stands for Manufacturer’s Serial Number. Wish I had been there to see. Just spent two and half months in the south of France and I never made it to Toulouse to check out this behemoth. 🙁

Can’t say I am crazy about these colours. Maybe its the angle and the lighting which gives the impression these colours are just a bit too dark. I do prefer the current livery.

I saw Cars this afternoon during my return trip to Canada. Decent movie from the little I saw. Watching a flick on an old 747 just doesn’t match the system at home.
The idea for this flick was interesting and the end result appeared to have a great deal of charm. I’ll have to give it another whirl when able.

I wish the Hamster a speedy recovery and return to the show where he fits so well with the rest of the team. He is a truly good presenter and displays a great love for cars. Hurry back Hammond, you are missed!

His loss was tragic in many ways. The world lost a person who had the ability to make what he did interesting to others. He was entertaining and his knowledge base seemed endless. Mister Irwin had this incredible ability to draw you into his world no matter what he was talking about. I will miss his antics while filming his shows but I will miss the man mostly for his qualities as a human being.

I always thought the original The Italian Job with Michael Caine was a great film.
