I offer my highest congrats to the RAAF… the 17 will look very good on the ramp at Richmond.
Now if we can do the same up here in the great white north things will really be looking good (although I have no preference 17 or 124 – just get us some ‘lift!!)
I agree. Seeing Canadas ageing Hercs draws a wince when I realize that the highest hour C-130 in the world is flown out of Trenton. However, I think the newer J variant will be the best suited aircraft for Canada. It is cheaper than the An-124 and C-17 and is currently in production just south of the border.
On the other, how many C-17s has Australia commited to buying for its needs?
Scalp/Storm shadow can be carried by the Mirage 2000-5 Mk2, and is carried by the Mirage 2000-9, which is basically a Mirage 2000-5 Mk2 customised for the UAE. The UAE version of the Storm Shadow is called Black Shaheen.

Here’s a pic with a centerline Scalp. I don’t know if it can be carried on the inboard wing pylons, but I don’t think it would be necessary for them to do so. I have a hard time imagining a war (save WWIII) where the FAF would lauch enough Scalps that it would need to fit more than one on their Mirage 2000D, considering the price of a single of those missiles.
When I see a pic of a Tornado with 4 Storm Shadows, I always think the RAF would be broke should such a thing ever happen IRL.
When it comes to BGL 400 and 1000, I think it was to expensive to produce in the quantities the FAF used, so it was probably much cheaper to buy off the shelf GBUs from the US.
And for your last question, I don’t think there is any weapon a D can carry than the Dash 5 can’t. You would probably have to go with the N and the ASMP.
Nic
To add to what you are saying, I have only ever seen pics of the Mirage 2000 carrying the Storm Shadow/Scalp/Black Shaheen on its centerline hardpoint. However, that doesn’t mean that the aircraft can’t do it. The only way it would be capable of doing so would be to discard its two large external wing mounted tanks meaning it would force the pilot to sacrifice range for payload. Therefore, I believe it would be more advantageous to actually just carry the one aforementioned missile and the most fuel it can take into combat.
So I guess the big advantage the D has is the two-man crew and radar that’s optimized for the surface attack role?
I guess the best way to put it is like this: the Mirage 2000D and Mirage 2000NK2 is similar in role as the F-15E Strike Eagle, only it just isn’t as capable. At least, that’s the way I look at it.
That’s an incredible picture Steve! Nice find!
I always loved Fawlty Towers and Monthy Python Flying Circus. Those were absolutely great for a good belly ache from the laughter!

Are u talking about Les Chevalier du Ciel?

Not only has the Raptor reached IOC, but as well, the second squadron from the 1st FW is now in the process of receiving its jets.
Great collestion of pics. Thanks for posting them!
Friends – loved watching it on a Friday night on C4 when all the other TV channels were showing the usual rubbish.
I agree! I miss Friends a lot. But I still get to watch the reruns almost nightly.
I do miss the A-Team and Starsky and Hutch. Those were two programs I grew up on and loved watching when I was a kid. They just don’t make them like that anymore.

That would actually be cool to have in your game room.
