hey adam,
great work once again! especially like the PIA 777…..very nice! dragonair cargo also cool…where did you shoot that from? either it was further down the runway or a very early rotation hehe:D
tty later
Sam
hey alex,
thanks for the comments! i believe the shutter speed was 30 seconds, at F14. i also tried shorter periods at F6.3 (lowest at my max. zoom), results werent vastly different.
a collection of stunning shots! really like the ethiopian and the BA 777. great catches! i can never seem to work out exactgly where those shots are taken from. so, er….where? 😀
Sam
very nice shots indeed! i’m a sucker for the nwa livery….757’s seem to be the biggest things going into DCA. i think i am going to take your advice and take a wonder up river to get some banking shots! it has never occured to me before. glad you had a good one in DC…what were you doing? did you like the intense heat?:D
Sam
an amazing selection of shots adam! really nice work and so sharp! you’re really getting good with that olympus. the PIA ones are my favourites:)
i think that rotation point is down a long and windy road, which is like the first right after passing the moat house hotel. then you follow that road down and take a right then a left……but i am not sure. Paul probably has a better idea.
Glad your having fun in Manchester…..photography must be so much easier with your own wheels!
Sam
wow! very nice shots indeed! you have inspired me now!
interesting to see what ops are like when the wind is blowing the other way!
Sam
it’s relatively easy to get there by PT, basically you get to the airport either by bus or metro (metro is easiest) and then its a 10 minute walk from the terminal. outside the terminal (im not exactly sure where) you can join on to the cycle path and walk that, which will take you right to the spot.
hope i helped (a little). im thinking of going back today, as the weather is nicer! hmmmmm…..temptation may be problematic in the future!
more!

thanks for looking!
Sam
hey, super shots! good job catching (what i perceive to be) G-BNLF! she took me to Hong Kong a while back. you got lucky with the weather too! the virgin looks super crisp……im intigued to know where those first few shots are taken.
Sam
saw this on BA0031 to Hong Kong. RUINED my movie; but very interesting all the same.
Sam
Goff taught us well, didnt he?:D 😎
The APU, which is basically a turbine engine, will provide power for lighting, galley ovens power, air conditioning, and hydraulic pressure when the main engines are off.
Ive walked past a few parked up 747s at Heathrow and their APUs are very, very noisy.
that peice of knowledge had nothing to do with goff, honestly!:p :p
Sam:D
the bit you are seeing at the end (the noisy bit) is the APU (auxiliary power unit). it is used to provide independent power on the ground which would usually come from a ground starter trolley or the main engines themselves. it is also used to start the engines. however, they arent switched on all the time.
there is no such thing as a stupid question! hope that helps!
Sam
some really nice ones here! i especially like your airliners.net photo. there’s something about aircraft at that angle that makes themlook supercool. that shot in particular, is very sharp.
Good work!
hope to see more of it soon!
