My daughter made me smile today, she came back from Army Cadets in her normal clothes rather than Camou (DPM).When I asked her why she was not in uniform, she said they had a `sillys` night…..think they said civvies love.

Hi all,
Recently some aircraft parts were found in the IJsselmeer and we have identified them as being from a Stirling. The exact identity of the wreck is provisional and we need more confirmation. An investigation will be carried out soon we hope.
On a bracket attached to a piece of fuselage skin there was this factory stamp.
AN4
NSDoes anyone on this forum know if this stamp could give an clue towards the factory or subcontractor who built this particular aircraft? We think the A could point towards Austin Motors.
Anyone?
Cheers
Cees
Just found the same AN4 marking on a big bit of Stirling I was cleaning up this afternoon, the bit was from a Stirling that collided with a Hurricane and crashed at Earith Cambs,a Mk 1 W7467 crashed 1941.
really nice prop for a living room too,I take it he`s not married ,lol.
Looks German to me too.
Looks like an FN7 taboo track to me,if you could do some working out of what that internal curve diameter is, we could say for sure.
WOW!!!
I’ll back you up Hindenburg……..:D
I certainly would’nt leave this in the front garden……Scrapmans dream!
As I mentioned before someone tried to take mine and only suceeded in injuring themselves, nice prop, does it have a history or just trawled up ? When I went to collect my prop (£100 ebay) They were also selling a nice B17 complete crashed three bladed prop that was in really nice condition.I tried to get my local legion to buy it as a memorial it was that good, but they were not interested as it was American..the owner wanted £500 blades hub and all >
I`ve just spent the best part of an hour trying to get casting sand out of a bearing race..I had to smile or I`d have burst into tears.

Point Cook RAAF Base, along with the RAAF Museum; RAAF Base Laverton, which is awfully fast disappearing under attack from bloody property developers, and Essendon Aerodrome, which too is under threat from individuals who may or may not have a vested interest in the extremely valuable dirt it sits on (and has since 1913). Now, 90-odd years later, it appears it’s a menace to society and so terribly dangerous.
You’ve upset me now……
Point Cook is really interesting, went up and visited the old gun battery site there in `95.
Slightly off the subject, but speaking of Shacks,a friend once took me to see a Shack in the Thetford area.It was just the fuselage cut into sections but fully fitted and stored in a barn, there were also two lightnings outside !! where is it now i wonder ?
Do you drink Halves ?
BlueRobins thread with the picture of the tower at Charmy down has made me realise how much aviation history is around me that I’ve paid little attention too. I have travelled all over the country visiting current bases, old airfields, airshows and museums yet I live fairly close to Chary Down but have only visited it twice. Yeovilton is down the road and gets visited a few times a year, usually when events are on but rarely did I take time out just to see what was happening on a normal day when the Shars, Hunters and Canberras were flying. I drive through Westonzoyland almost daily but I’ve never stopped to explore the airfield. Is this the norm to virtually ignore things close at hand yet visit places far off whenever possible? So I was wondering what’s on your doorstep and when was the last time you visited it or paid it some attention. Aviation related of course!
I live close to Charmey Down too but have never been up there. Is it true you can go on the site as my friend in Marshfield tells me he walks his dog there all the time ?
Well Done Newforest, but is that a public memorial garden and not someones residence ?.I`m sure theres some pics out there of ones in peoples gardens, like the chap down Devon/Cornwall with that really nice replica in his garden and the full prop still on its engine ( B17?).There was a chap up near Long Sutton ,Lincs. with alot of ,what look like, trawler recovered props in his garden, they looked superb.Whilst I`m on the subject there was a really nice ME 109/110 complete propellor in the boatyard in Westbay near Lyme regis a few years back..anyone know where it ended up ?
