    Stirling Bits

Just out of interest, are there enough Stirling bits and pieces floating around for one to be assembled? There certainly seems to be enough enthusiasm and experts! What a stunning project that would be, sitting up on that humungous undercarriage!

Hello FN, There is very little Stirling stuff about, when I started collecting it in 1989,people I met were all too keen to exchange Stirling Fittings for Lancaster stuff,The Stirlings rightly or wrongly didn`t have the same allure. There are now however a few Lanc `homebuilds` some superbly engineered from nothing. The biggest loss to the Stirling `cause` I feel was when a pile of cockpit airframe which came out of a riverbank was scrapped about ten years ago.it really was in superb condition. If I see anything Stirling these days ,I try to get it and worry about the money later, the stuff appears when people are skint then is bought and goes to ground again.I saw an escape hatch on an `auction site` which, true, went for alot of money, but I wish I`d bought it now as to make one would take some serious time and never be original.

    Original Stirling Panels

If the owners of the original Stirling panels are out there,it would be nice to get accurate details of the panel before attempting to build the rest of the flight deck. The original tracing of the panel was done with a thick wax crayon !

The curved part looks the same as a Frazer Nash rear gun turret.

We never used the same route the 1944 M.U. as we had a Helicoptor and the most direct route via the old hunting lodge.Tony House of the original recovery party told me they dragged it on this trolley to the river, then used a Cletrac the rest of the way to the Queen Mary.I will however mention this to the Stirling Project to determine whether it`s worth a second look. This Engine Nacelle would be North of the Main crash site on the Stocksbridge side if anyones in the area in the near future.

No Triggers too horsey and the original name too offensive these days.. how about frigger?

Yes this turret has been repaired with straight panels added, probably due to damage on the front perspex curves,my cupola is damaged in the same areas and making a pair (handed) of replacements with compound curves is a daunting task as the perpex panels are quite large.
