Steve Earle – ‘Johnny Come Lately’
MY P-47 is a pretty good ship
And she took a round coming cross the Channel last trip
I was thinking ’bout my baby and letting her rip
Always got me through so far
Also The Four Seasons – ‘Silver Star’ (Canadair CT-33?)
I think it was more of a case of covering someone elses dig as none of the usual suspects featured apart from Mr Robinson (appropriately!) Still very enjoyable.
Don’t suppose that anyone has any google earth coordinates? (Coverage of Pushkin is quite good) 😎
Hawkwind – Kadu Flyer:
“I want to try, I want to be me
I want to get high, I want to see
I want to fly, I want to be free
I take the trail from katmandu
With a different kind of trip in view
Everest is behind the town
Mountain high-bound to get higher
My glider, I’m the kadu flyer
Cygnus of the skies, the prize
And I will rise to win it
Never fly through a cloud
If there’s a mountain in it
My route is by the steep ascent
Do battle with the elements
Weeks of peril yes freezing winds
Downdraft dangers want to drag me down
My straining ailerons the only sound
I’m carried by the keening wind, with the dandelions glide
Everest, I’ll never rest
I’ll see you a mogul when I’m high
Crawl the thermal up a mountain
Like the pterodactyl’s wings
Waves of lift and wing vibrations
Help me to invoke the sun
True me up in soaring fun
Rising like the phoenix
In full flight from the fire
A dragon wing of string and sticks
Gliding higher and higher and higher”
….. and a little less outlandish; what about Albert Hammonds “it never rains in Southern California” (“Got onboard a westbound 7 47 etc”)

its a very sad sight to see, I know we cant save em all, but I wonder how many office blocks and housing estates will be built on this one ,as with the others??
Possibly not too many, as the ground is quite unstable in the area due to mining subsidence. The section of the M62 that follows one of the runways had to be rebuilt on at least one occasion.
Whilst relaxing in the small office, I happened to notice this ad in one of the better halfs weekly magazines….. So is the Bf110 in the top RH corner deliberate? Did Fleigerkorps X arrive in Sicily with sweet smelling uniforms? Confused!:D
Photo origin unknown.
I know, I live on anglesey! I was referring to where some of the heads of the society live 🙂
Copied! I expect that they would probably close Valley too if they had the choice!
Wasn’t the Miles Master designed to be the last step in the training plan before the Spitfire / Hurricane?
Thats the thing, raf valley is more in their backyard than llanbedr 😡
To be quite fair; Llanbedr is within the Snowdonia National Park, Valley is not. Still does not excuse the attitude of these people in my opinion.
Stretching the geographical limits a bit; there was a feature in the local free paper in the Forest of Dean (Gloucestershire) some years back about the substantial remains of a Blenheim in the River Severn, near to Sharpness (If I remember correctly) – anyone know any more of this? There was also allegedly the remains of a Gladiator which had failed in an attempt to fly under the old Severn Rail bridge (Can’t have been trying too hard as a Wellington was flown under there on one occasion!)
The Stratocruiser that landed at Stretton was on a Heathrow – New York Flight, 19th May 1956, which I presume had a scheduled call at Ringway. In actual fact, for reasons unknown they were supposed to be diverting to Burtonwood but landed at Stretton by mistake, to be greeted by Petty Officer on a bicycle who apparently signalled to them in the strongest possible nautical terms that they should go away very quickly!
