Or the BOAC Stratocruiser that landed at Stretton instead of Ringway ……
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I thought that the restoration of 34070 ‘Manston’ to running order at the Swanage Railway was worthy of mention on here, see here Their next project? 34053 ‘Sir Keith Park’
The GWR named some of their Castle class locos after the BoB a/c, ie, Spitfire,Hurricane etc, however, I don’t think that any of these have survived.
5080 ‘Defiant’ survives in preservation, though is currently not in working order. Info

Done – thanks for the ‘heads up’. Happy memories of learning to drive and learning to fly R/C models there many years ago.
Am not too far from Cheshire when I am at home – can you send me some details.
I can just about take John Lennon as a title as named airfields aren’t all after aviation personalities (JFK, for example) and Lennon is internationally identified with Liverpool.
The strapline “Above us only sky” from Lennons song ‘Imagine’ also fits quite well with the airport name.
Interesting that another (once) popular beat combo took their name from JFK Internationals’ former identity.
Memorial Service held recently:
Here’s the Spec. Note it’s role!

256mph???? Vertically downwards I presume! 😮
wcfcfan is correct. Trespassing is a civil offense, not a criminal offense. Despite what all the signs say, you cant be prosecuted for a civil offense, and you therefore cant be prosecuted for trespassing… That not to say yo cant go to court for trespassing… But it will be civil not criminal! Or at least thats how I understand the situation!
I know that trespass on a railway (in the UK) is a criminal offence, as opposed to a civil one. I would imagine that Airfields and Dockyards would be a similar case?
Saw this on TV.
Apparently its one of only three remaining Lancs.!!!
Why did they chose today to show this? – Just short of news??
Wrexham has a road on a new estate on the site of the former Watery Road goods yard named after David Lord (Arnhem VC)
The industrial estate in Burscough, Lancs has a Ringtail Road commemorating the former Fleet Air Arm base of the same name.
Have read recently of a Hampden pilot being credited with shooting down a JU88 with his front gun, Also of a Beaufighter crew downing a Thai airforce Curtiss Hawk.
Sealand had a Hunter – not sure if it has gone with the base closing? Is the Lightning still outside Teeside Airport (Middleton St George?)?
