Pima currently gets almost 200,000 visitors a year, so it will be well seen and I’m sure, much appreciated.
The museum has more than 300 aircraft (about half indoors) and 125,000 artifacts (excluding photos).

My question is, although the story and location are fictitious, were any B17s stationed in Northern Ireland during the war, maybe just as part of a training or fitting out unit?

RAF 220 Squadron Fortress IIs flew on detachments from Nutts Corner, Ballykelly and Aldergrove at various times.

The Air Britain book may have a lot of the info you require, sadly am not near my copy just now.

The Avenger in its current state is unique and a good representative of its era. If they wanted a WWII Avenger, wouldn’t it be easier to just go out and buy one? 🙂
