Lots of Spitfire bits …. I have a feeling they were not taking proper care of them! 😀

A bigger question, to me, is why should a vehicle as quickly transportable as an airplane be designed to ride a railcar? I can understand rail-transportable tanks or artillery pieces, but 300-mph airplanes?

There is also the point that by using a train, 40+ aircraft could be delivered by a crew of 3 men in one go – rail transport was about the economics of scale.

My late father joined the RAF in 1940 and completed his pilot basic training, he was seriously injured in an accident at SFTS and was invalided out, ending up in the Colonial Service in Nigeria. Postwar he did 29 years with BOAC/BA.

Mother joined the WRNS and was an intercept morse operator with the Y Service, based at Scarborough and Flowerdown (Winchester) Postwar she too worked for BOAC.

Both Grandfathers were army in WWI, one infantry and the other RAMC.

Right engine failed on takeoff…should have aborted long before rotation.

If they were aware of it early enough.

It may sound dramatic but this could be the end of this forum as a meaningful resource if the situation is not resolved. I suspect that a lot of users will go elsewhere, partly as a matter of principle and also as the quality of the forum will diminish measureably.

Hmm – don’t fancy ‘guessing’. For me it would either be pull one up from just off Broome, or hope the plans are in fact down the back of someone’s sofa.

But these Chinese Lanc repros – tell me more!

I don’t think that any remains off Broome are suitable for ‘pulling up’, apart from the fact that they were blasted into scrap before the weather did its bit for 70 years, are they not a war grave?

Leave it there is best, great for a bit of deja’vu but the Trumpeter kits are in a different league & absolutely superb!

There it did indeed stay, but it would not be the sort of kit that you would buy to build, more as a collectible item.

Top job BBMF people with the restoration 🙂

Here is TE311 at Biggin Hill, BoB display on 15th September 1973 serving her time with the Demonstration Flight.

Was this before the wings were made ‘easily’ removeable?
