    Correct, but worth qualifying.

    The original first fit engine, Packard or Rolls Royce built, determines the mark number specified on the build documentation and A.M. movement card.

    An original build Mk XVI subsequently fitted with a RR Merlin in latter years, post RAF service, is still a Mk XVI in my book.

    Was there ever any exchange of engines (ie from Packard to RR) in RAF service?

    HMS Pursuer carried only Wildcats and only operated in the Northern Hemisphere.

    That covers much of the combat zone in the Pacific then … 😀

    she’s a Merlin. Not sure if it is a Rolls Royce or a packard through

    Am I correct in thinking that having a Packard Merlin made it a Mk XVI? – If it was an RR Merlin that would make it a low-back Mk IX?

    Sabre IIB 2,400 horsepower (1,790 kW). Four choke S.U. carburettor: Mainly used in Hawker Tempest V.

    Isn’t there a crated P47N in the Sopplata collection?

    Is that the one that was ‘crated’ in a section of B-36 fuselage?

    The P40 Kittyhawk plane has been removed from the desert and locked in a storage crater in El Alemain.

    An RAF Mountain rescue team, searching for a missing aircraft in the Highland of Scotland during WWII, found the remains of a Sopwith Camel, and its pilot, from WWI.

    Wow, looking great! It would be very interesting to see a mock combat with a Gladiator, or one of the Hawker bipes…. sadly won´t happen. Thanks for your drawing, like it!

    Presumably they could have met in actual combat in early 1940?
