Does snoozing in a B777 on an overnight from Angola count? 😀
Presumably performance would have been a little behind the MkXII Spitfire at similar altitudes?
The floor and hangar are reproductions! 😀
Actually they had the dataplate from the original floor … :diablo:
Seriously, the Anson looks superb, a credit to all who worked on it.
Aircraft: I would love to have seen one of those single-engined flypasts by an Avro Lincoln.
Pilot: Alex Henshaw (or to be honest, probably just about any test pilot of that generation!)
Thanks for reporting back! 🙂
Is 07 an active runway with abandoned aircraft left that close to it?
Yes, 07 is active – generally for the smaller stuff. The derelicts shown have all gone now, but there seems to be a new dump starting on a new hardstanding NE of the tower, a 737 and pair of 727s are the first ‘guests’.
Incidentally this pair of Angola Air Force 707s seem to have not moved or a long time.

There were three 707/720 types at Luanda yesterday, but sadly I could not see any of the registrations, it was getting dark when I got there. Am Pretty sure that this one:
399C 19415 D2-FDZ ETRAM Air Wing seen complete in scrap compound at Luanda 28.3.09
is not one of them as it was amongst the derelicts by the control tower that have all been broken up in the last year or so.

In the days following D day when the squadrons used the dusty temporary landing fields dust was a major issue. Given the RAF’s experience in the Western desert, that this was not anticipated was just another in a long list of MOD failures that often defy words.
I think it was the dust itself that was not anticipated rather than any problems stemming from it …
The Aphrodite project B-17s were open cockpit.
Is that because the pace of aircraft development was significantly slower during those latter fifty years than it was in the former fifty years; or because the design of modern aircraft is such that they have greater longevity; or is it because of the UK economic position of recent times combined with a changed attitude to defence budgeting?
Yes … 😀
‘The recovered parts are with Mark Harris of Supermarine Aero Engineering, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, who continues to store them but has the long-term intention of restoring it to flight status.’
Mark
Thanks, much appreciate the info 🙂
Can we get a clue as to its current status or is it a case of waiting for the book?
Which was actually a Mk XVI.
