Shows the canopy was jammed. They tried to open with a bit of oil and failed.

Hence the oil drops visible on the ‘hatch’ photo … it all falls into place … 🙂 (eating hat as he types!)

Is there any way that the administrators of this forum could invite a spokesperson from the RAFM to provide comment, updates etc on this matter and the museums activities in general? (The railway forum that I use has regular input from at least one official at the National Railway Museum, so there is some precedent) …

Amazing pics guys,is there any reason to suspect those which did not make it to the U.K. still exist in India

The Indian Warbirds website does not mention any (I think – its a big website!). I wonder if some of the missing ones did make it to the UK and are hiding in containers somewhere?

Am 99% certain these were Tempests – I was a fan of the things having read ‘The Big Show’ at the time! 🙂

I am sure that I remember seeing photos in Aeroplane Monthly at the time, showing Tempests with wings, even on undercarriages, fairly complete, though derelict, captioned as being ‘decoys’ …

When I asked the owner he said is was from a Canberra Bomber and if I knew anyone interested who wanted one let him know.

Did the owner say how he had acquired it? That may give some clue …
