    Up periscope

Here is a shot… You mean the small shiny pipe by the front right windscreen, right? I will try to remember to ask.

    Hurry 96RW first flight

Thanks, Dave! That first flight must have been quite the sight!!! I missed the flight this morning but the oil tanks were still almost too hot to touch when I got there … 🙂

    8 or 12 pack

    JDK…

In Texas, we would add some 20mm gun pods, and put pearl handled .45s on the pilot… (Ok, so we may need the tropical air cooler too if it is summertime)
(Also, in Texas we chill our 6 and 12 packs…) …

Tnx for filling me in on the outter gun ports. I was just out there and took a shot of the 4 main patches. Will look for them next time.

Tom’s morning jaunt in the CCF built Hurry went OK. smooth and running well. Not as much fun as a Spitfire, but responds well, good pull.

It is the one from Colorado. A 9 yr restoration.

    A Hurricane in Houston?

That’s not that unusual is it?….

    http://blogs.chron.com/rita/

LOL ROTF… oh man that hurts… good one!!!!!

Yep, we have lots of hurricanes, but those are real bee-awtches! Why just last year we had Katrina and Rita fly in… No thanks… New hurricane season starts in a couple weeks… Ugh!!! And Lone Star Fight Museum is right by the ocean in Galveston..

Our local hurricanes aren’t sweet like this “imported’ Hurricane.

Have lunch plans for Hooks grill today and of course, to check on Hurry.

JDK, re my name/avatar. Thanks. My dad flew for Pan Am, 1944-80. Got out of USAAF in 44 after flying Forts out of Deenthorpe, then instructor at Sebring, FL. They let a handfull go fly with PAA. They were still flying Clippers out of Dinner Key when my dad started on DC2s and 3s. I knew several Clipper pilots… very good family friends. As a kid I loved watching the US Coast Guard fly their Albatrosses out of Dinner Key off the old PAA hangars/ramp that are all still there.

Here are a few more shots… some interior… Tom in the cockpit, Dawson standing beside.

With a 1 gig card in my little Nikon S1 I am good for about 750 shots. LOL

I got some video of the landing and taxi in.

It is primo beautiful inside the fuselage. It is cleaner than a new dinner plate. Spotless and shiny. I will post more info when I get more… It is here for its new paint job and it will take at least a couple months… It is an 8 gun wing.

Never in my mind did I ever think I would even see a real Hurricane, let alone see all this…

The folks around her are cordial, friendly, fun and fantastic. NOT to mention very dedicated to aviation!

Going back out to Hooks today. By then Tom will have flown her again, but not sure if he will still be there at lunch. (Hooks has a great grill for lunch.)

Al and I have been email pals for a long time… (I also posted a note under historic aviation, so will be brief here…)

I am very sad and feel I have lost a close pal. He had a great spirit and really hoped to meet him one day soon… From the posts, he truly was a greater man than I knew.

He touched my life, as a true (crazy, generous, fun, family loving Scot!)

God’s peace to his family in the difficult time of such a loss.

Ageorge passing, Houston shocked and sad!

Al and I have been flypast and personal email pals for over a yr, maybe 2. so long i lost track….

I am shocked and very saddened…

we shared a love for flying, old planes, and life. I sent him tons of pictures from Hooks airport (mk959 and lots of others!!)

he shared stuff about his family, his life, escapades… lol often requiring stitches… he and his 2 lads had lots of fun… from the stories I got… haha

he also liked old tractors, had a vintage Rover he drove with his lads. I sent him pic’s of my Jeep, by lots of old planes at Hooks Airport here. Drove him nuts I could get by those planes and he couldn’t. LOL

Allastair was a generous, fun loving, caring and great hearted fellow, a real Scot!

I had truly hoped to meet him one day… He had a great heart!!!! Gusto for living and his family…

He touched my life… and I am very sorry to hear the news…

My thoughts, heart and prayers to his family!

I am sure his time here touched many besides me…

    John

PS Ben, Thanks for the note!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wrote Al saturday trying to reconnect with him… as his email had changed. I was waiting for a response…

    Celebrity pilot, Jimmy Buffett

Singer (Margaritaville, Cheeseburger in Paradise, etc), songwriter, author, fly fisherman and sailor…

Jimmy Buffett has more than one plane, and since the 70s had had even more… He started out on a Lake Renegade (Lady of the Waters), crashed his Grumman Goose on takeoff near Martha’s Vineyard, Boston, retired his famouls Grumman Albatross (Hemisphere Dancer) to Orlando FL Margaritaville on display, now flies a Stearman, a new corp jet and a large Cessna turboprop float plane… He flies all over the place… and writes about his adventures in his songs and books. He is a big fan of pioneer seaplane aviation ie Pan Am China Clippers… Landing his Albatross in Jamaica a number of yrs ago, he got shot up by the local authories thinking he was a drug runner… He wrote about it in his song Jamaica Mistakah…. LOL

Jimmy has numerous restaurants and cafes in the US and Caribbean. They each have huge seaplanes hanging from their ceilings… In Orlando there is about a 40ft China Clipper replica hanging…

He also has a vintage Pan American China Clipper manufacturer’s model hanging over his office desk in his Palm Beach FL office…

So, he is a busy pilot and big fan of aviation… He is not the goof off boozer and beach bum many think he is… He makes money at ever turn and supports his flying, boating and adventuring hobbies…
