the way i see it, they will possibly get a number of ex-yugoslav Gazelles, UTVA-75 and Hips, maybe a small flight of AN-2 or AN-26 as well. my guess it will mbe more like what the Montenegro army air corps has now.

    Belgium to Sell A-310 fleet

Interim Minister of defence, Pieter de Crem, announced today due to the constant breakdown problems of the Belgian Armed Forces A-310 fleet (mainly with the engines) it is now looking to sell these aircraft and buy 2 similar aircraft to replace them.

Belgium bought 2 secondhand A-310’s from Singapore Airlines in 1997 to replace the elderly Boeing 727. the aircraft were bought verry cheaply as SA was encountering the same problem with the aircraft.

possible candidates would be secondhand DC10’s, 737, 767 or A-330 aircraft.
about a year ago ther was a rumor circulating about new transports for the Air Component, although those have never been confirmed.

why cant de RAF go for the cheap option, like what they did with the AVRO Shackleton with the Gannets AEW radars.

the RAF could migrate the nimrods R.1’s systems on another platform like the A-330, tristar or VC10 😎

if i may have it my way, get out of both the Superbug and JSF purchase
    why, simple:

-F-18F is far inferiour to the current F-111 (less range, lass payload) sure the Superbug has more manuevrability the the F-111 but since when is maneuvrability needed to attack ships. besides, even if the aircraft is compatible with the current legacy hornets, that doesnt make them any better.

-second is JSF, just like other countries are concidering, get out :diablo:
the JSF was intended to be a low-cost stealth multirole fighter, instead it is now a 5th generation high-cost bombtruck, for the payload it carries i’d rather go for the F-5E/F (or F-20 if it was still alive). cost is another factor, the original price for the JSF was intended to be arround $45 million, now that price has more then doubled and its much slower then the current aircraft its replacing.

there are much cheaper and simpler sollutions available

    F-111:
-replace them with new build F-22 (as noted above)
-if delivery takes to long, why not lease ex-RAF/German/Italian Tornado IDS as a stop gap till the first raptor arrives.

    F-35 JSF:
-concider other, more cheaper types who have the same capability or even better, good exsamples are the EF typhoon, Rafale, Gripen and maybe the Super hornet (as it falls under the same class)

    just my 2 cents 😀

if EADS would like to revive the MAKO, now is a good time 😎
the MAKO would be perfect as an F-35 alternative and a much lower price.
i mean look, for the price of 2 F-35’s now you can get an F-22 😀

reading the eurofighter supplement (AFM january 2005 or 2004?). the RAF would have 8 typhoon units, these being:

    Warton:
    -17 (F) typhoon OCU

    Coningsby:
    -29 (R) SQN
    -3 SQN

    Leeming:
    -11 (F) SQN
    -25 SQN

    Leuchars
    -43 (F) SQN
    -111 (F) SQN
    -? SQN

the info dates back to ’04, so could have changed over the last 3 years 😎

    Belgium Formally retires Magisters

Today, the Belgian Defence/air component (Comopsair) says goodbye to the last military Fouga operational in the world, as after more then 45 years of service, the Comopsair is retiring the type. tonight MT-35 (the last flying fouga) will perform its last flight at Beauvechain, but apparently it made a flyby over Belgium earlier today, for a final greet (including in Ostend intl. at 16.20H, on its way to Koksijde AB). after today, the fouga will only be flown in private hands.

    UPDATE:
deu to an engine failure, the last flight of the fouga will not take place tonight. so the training flight she made this afternoon has now been recorded as the final flight 😡

the 2 aircraft look great, but its the P-X that really caught my eye, bieng the only aircraft that looks new.
the C-X is more like, forgive me if im wrong, an upgraded version of the Kawasaki C-1 already in service, i would atleast expected something wth 4 engines as seen in earlier proposals 😎

i think the ASTOR was orriginaly meant to replace the Canberra PR.9.
but for the role of strategic reccon, i thought the tornado GR.4 already took over the role from the PR.9.
