i must say, those are excellent pictures, i was there to on saterday. i posted my pics here yesterday in the airshows forum 😎
its strange that you mention the VIP jets, as i was visiting the BAHA forums again, there was added that another rumor tells that they are looking to replace the 2 (upgraded) Falcon 20 and 1 Falcon 900B. by a pair of Embraer Legacy jets, ive been doing some research and for the price of $23 million per aircraft (16 seat) i think this is quite plausible. if these rumors are true, we might expect to have a pretty modern transport fleet.
A-400M, A-330, NH90, ERJ-135/145, Legacy… its starting to look good 😀
although i would prefer to the typhoon, im gonna have to go with the F-16.
as India is looking for larger quantity of aircraft, the F-16 can be the best and most affordable.
in my own oppinion, i say its gonna be similar to the Kawasaki C-1 (with witch it shows great resemblance

UPDATE 25.04.2007: green light for purchase of 8 NH90’s.
the Belgian gouverment announced today that the official greenlight was given for the buy of 8 NH90 instead of the original 10 first suggested. the other 2 aircraft will be placed in option. the value of the contract is worth 292,5 million euro’s, the reduction was made due to the fact the price of the helicopters went up as they waited to long to order.
funding for the deal will be prepared by friday and the contract is to be signed shortly, maybe even this week. 😀
TOPIC REVIVE: it took a long time but it seems that on friday, during the verry last meeting of the gouverment, the final desision will be made for the purchase of the NH90 helicopters to replace the ageing Seaking Mk.48 and Allouette III’s. if the final approval is bieng givven, the contract will be signed within the next week orr month.
this is Belgiums last chance to buy the NH90’s as after friday, the gouverment will sieze all its activities till after the elections in june. everyone on Koksijde AFB in waiting cause for some time there has been uncertainties. Minister J. Vandelanotte wanted to disband the military SAR operations and fully privatise the SAR sector, therefor 100’s of jobs were at stake on the base as these tasks would be transfered to Noordzee Helikopters (NVH) in Oostende. if the approval for the NH-90is givven, there jobs will be secure.
up to now it looks like:
-4 TTH (for troop transport and CSAR, new unit)
-4 NFH (SAR configured to replace the Seakings of 40th squadron)
-2 NFH (ASW configured to replace the navy All.III of the heliflight)
I cannot find the serial anywhere, have any idea?
the serial is located on the belly stabilizer fin
i’ll take belgium, this is my view of how the forces would look like.
COMOPSAIR
24 x Typhoon (multirole, to replace F-16 by 2015)
12 x Hawk 100 (light attack/CAS)
10 x PC-21 (to replace all SF260 and alpha jets)
6 x C-130J (by 2008, leased as a stop gap until the A-400M arrives, retire all H & E models)
4 x C-295 (for small Humanitarian operations)
keep the A310, ERJ-135/145 fleet
2 x Gulfstream V (replace falcon 20 & 900)
5 x NH-90 (sar version, to replace seakings)
COMOPSLAND (returning army aviation)
12 x A-129 Mangusta (replace A-109 in ATn role)
7 x NH-90 (TTH version, 2 more then originaly ordered)
24 A-109 (to be retained, but equiped with a more powerfull engine)
B-Hunter UAV’s (to be retained)
COMOPSNAV
2 x NH-90 (NFH, already on order to replace Allouete III)
2 x A-109N (modified A-109BA, with retractable landing gear)
3 x PZL M-28 (maratime patrol, to protect fisheries)
i know it looks like a lot, but everyone has its own view at these things.
until they joined NATO, Lithuania had 4 L-39’s flying in there air force. 3 of them are now placed in storage, what happend to the 4th one, i dont know.
a more logical choice would be a couple of Ex-russian or ex-romanian MIG-29’s. although its only a small country, i guess the purchase of 4 light attack aircraft would be more reasonable like the L-159 (best option due to the L-39 experience), Hawk 200 (single seat attack craft), Alpha-jets (ex-BAC, updated model with sidewinders) or maybe even the F-5E/F (with swiss leasing/selling them cheap)
i think the contract, everything included, was valued at 250 million euro.
here’s something you dont read everyday, maybe this is what makes the Typhoon so special

Eurofighter Typhoon is ‘over the moon’
The Eurofighter Typhoon hit the headlines recently, embroiled in the Serious Fraud Office’s investigation of BAE Systems and the Saudi Government over corruption charges.
You would think that building one of the world’s most advanced jet fighters was challenging enough, but workers at the BAE plant on the Lancashire coast have had to allow for the pull of the moon every time the build process begins.
So fine are the tolerances used to build the plane that even the 2mm movements in the ground caused by the pull of the moon and movement of the tides throw the tolerances out.
To solve the problem BAE has spent over £2.5 million putting in special automated alignment facilities. Each airframe is built on a three metre deep, 18 metre ‘floating’ concrete raft. All nine automated jacks and both laser trackers are positioned on one surface ensuring all movement is relative, achieving a near perfect alignment whatever the moon may be doing.
ive seen that before, it was in a movie “Bleu Tornado”.
in that movie Dirk Benedict (aka faceman from a-team) was an italian F-104S pilot, when he and his wingman suddenly got attacked by similar shperes.
i didnt even knew those thing could do such a thing to an aircraft for real, the Polish pilot must have been lucky to get out of there. 🙂
wow, now thats overkill 😎
Belgium decided to buy 10 NH90’s (2 NFH with ASW, 4 NFH SAR and 4 TTH)
but up to now, there has only been words, no deals 😡
UPDATE.
it has been confirmed that a replacement C-130 has been found.
the aircraft in question is Ex-Evergreen WC-130E, serial N30EV.
the aircraft will be tranfered to SABENA Technics within a month for full scale upgrade and overhaul to the same C-130H standard as the rest of the fleet.
rumor also has it, since serial CH-13 is an unlucky number (supersticious B*llsh*t) the aircraft might be serialed CH-14.
