ahh, it reminds me back of the old days,
as i went on holiday, i builded a whole air force for a little friend of mine.

    builded UH-1H, F-16C (With lantirn pods & armament), F-4E, Mirage, Gripens,…
man i even build 2 carriers with X-32A back home in my room.
they werent that big or good.

ok back on topic: That thing is huge, but here’s the completed model, pictures were posted a couple of days ago 😮

i better start think how the equipment will be devided:
the way things our going its gonna be 80-20 in favor of the Waloons.

maybe by 2035 we will have 2 new air forces: the “Flanders Air Command” and the “Force Aerienne Wallonie”. 😀

oh well, man can dream, can he

about everyone thinking that belgium should go for the JSF.

we went for the JSF in december 2000, but due to protest by the socialists, we were forced to drop out. if we were to proceed, we would have invested 400 million euro’s in the aircrafts development.

still, i think the A/F/T-50 golden eagle would have a good market here, but who knows, with JSF bieng outruled by most countries that cant afford it, maybe the future will bring forward a new fighter that is lighter, faster or cheaper.

maybe, (unexpected) with the good relations Belgium has with China, the FC-1, J-10,… might be a possible awser (but fitted with western avionics, maybe by Bae/Sabca/Thales 😀 )

the A-109’s are not so bad in transport and liaison, but for anti tank and scouting, i think we should have bought at least 10 Tiger ARH’s

as for the EC-635, compared to the A-109, it has the same capabilities as the latest version.

i think the biggest mistake made here is as noted before, the withdrawal of the HS-784’s, we should have bought 2 or 3 C-295’s to replace them, not the Embraer 135/145.

there have been no plans up to now about an F-16 replacement program, but in a news article december last year, said that in the near future, Eurofighter is going to market the Typhoon around europe as a next generation fighter, and Belgium is one of the countries on the list of potential customers.

personaly, i think as usual, our goverment is gonna go for a cheaper, lighter fighter and in smaller numbers, in 2004 the requirement stood for 48 aircraft in the “Plan: 2010-15” file of defence, so if (witch i hope) a new fighter will be bought, it will propably be some thing like Gripen, Mako heat, F-16E/F or maybe a new fighter jet in the F-5 class, maybe a future fighter like the mitsubishi F-3 seen in an earlier thread.
if the cost will be like they said it would be, this can be really cool owning a YF-23’s minime 😀

UPDATE: Sabena technics has told the air force general and defence minister Flahaut that the Belgian Air Component will recieve 16 million euro’s as insurance payment for the destroyed aircraft.

work has already begun on finding a Second-Hand C-130H to replace the one lost today, as the 10 remaining aircraft are barely enough to keep the operations running. the Belgian Defence department will try to allocate another 4 million euro’s, since the aircraft will possibly cost 20 million to replace.

pressumebly the aircraft will be bought from the US storage facility AMARC.
as for the designation, spotters and entousiast here, think it will be named “CH-13”. however some sources are speculating since maintainence problems will also arrise on that aircraft, the chance exists of buying 1 (or maybe 2) other aircraft such as C-295, ATR-42, C-27,….however, there were just rumors, as the BAC is facing certain Airlift problems 😎

that idea of mexico still bothers me?
why does the navy get themost advanced aircraft (E-2C, new fighters,….) while the air force still flies old and worn out F-5E’s, if it was up to me, tranfer the F-5’s to the navy and let the air force have the new fighters.

    just my 2 cents.

at aero india 2004 there was a proposal for a naval carrier based version, in the same class of the mig-29K.

is that version going to be developed for the Ex-Gorshkov carrier, or is this plan cancelled

Islamabad to buy Chinese F-10 fighter aircraft

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to purchase state-of-the-art Chinese F-10 multi-role fighter-cum-bomber planes while the decision pertaining to purchase of US-made ultramodern F-16s would be taken in July.
In the meantime, Moscow has signalled to Pakistan that like the US it could also de-hyphenate its ties with Pakistan and India. As a result of this change in thinking, Pakistan could also go for Russian planes for the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

The first batch of high-profile JF Thunder-17 aircraft being jointly manufactured by Pakistan and China will be ready for induction into PAF ahead of the schedule, early next year.

These planes would be flying in the same year in the skies of Pakistan and China as part of their respective air forces.

PAF chief, Air Chief Marshal Tanveer Mahmood Ahmad, will visit China shortly to inspect the project. It will be his first foreign trip as the air chief.
According to sources in the defence production, Secretary Defence Production Lt Gen Ali Jan Orakzai, who had gone to China last month, returned after an extremely fruitful visit.

Orakzai was tasked by President Pervez Musharraf with exploring the possibilities of acquiring the high-tech planes and other weapon systems for the three services of Pakistan, preferably on technology transfer basis.
During his visit to China in February this year, President Musharraf was shown the F-10 (also called J-10 or Jian-10) considered to be the most secret flying machine of the Chinese.

Sources indicated that F-10 are the aircraft of the new century and they have recently been rolled out. No one knows the number and positioning of the planes as Chinese kept it under wraps till now, considering it as their secret weapon.

With an understanding about provision of the planes to Pakistan, Beijing has unveiled it since the plane in question would fly for the first time out of the air frontiers of China.

The Chinese engineers and scientists are still working to improve it further.
Pakistan has decided to buy initially two squadrons of these planes. The mode of supply and price would be worked out through a system that is already in place.

Pakistani secretary defence production has confirmed the country’s intention to buy the J-10 aircraft.

In a related development, Pakistan has plans to buy US-made F-16 in fewer number and in all likelihood the number would be cut to half of what Islamabad had initially planned to purchase.
Pakistan had made up its mind to buy 55 brand new F-16s, but now the number which Pakistan is expected to ask is 25 while 30 used planes will be bought from sources that the United States will identify.

The second-hand planes will be later upgraded by the Americans and they could be provided by the US Air Force or any third country, the sources said.
F-16s are considered to be a passion of the PAF since they were the first hi-tech flying machines that were inducted in its fleet. Pakistan had made up its mind to buy 75 new F-16 last year. The deal was at its final stage and the required legislation was about to be tabled in the US Congress for facilitation of the supply, but the devastating earthquake of October 8 last year forced Pakistan to request shelving the plan for the time being.

Pakistan is also eyeing the Russian defence production market. When President Musharraf visited Moscow in February 2003, the Russians offered choppers to Pakistan but the deal did not materialise.
Now Islamabad has received positive signals from Moscow that could encourage it buy some Russian planes.

The Russian technology is very close to that being used by the Chinese and it would not be a difficult proposition for Pakistan to maintain such a system if Russians agree to supply aircraft to Pakistan, the sources said.
The sources said that Islamabad and Moscow have started contacts to initiate co-operation in the field of defence.

A visit by Ali Mohamed Jan Orakzai to Washington in July is also on the cards.
Meanwhile, the Joint Defence Consultative Group (JDCP) of Pakistan and the United States has been convened in early May in Washington.
Defence Secretary Lt Gen Tariq Waseem Ghazi will lead the Pakistani delegation in the JDCP while the US delegation will be led by Undersecretary for Defence (Policy) Eric S Edelman.

The group had its meeting in Pakistan early last year and it is expected that the May meeting of the group will take stock of Pakistan’s needs.
In this regard, lists are being finalised, the sources said. – Internews

if i would chose 1 plane for an air force like belgium for exsample, i think i will have to go with 2 squadrons of Rafale’s, in terms of payload, the gripen would be to light, and the typhoon would be a bit overkill, the rafale on the other hand fits in between the 2.

it might be a bit heavier then the gripen, but its capabilities arent to be underestimated. besides, belgium always had a weak spot for french hardware 😀
