Belgian Air force to sell its White Fleet
under the defence reforms, it was decided to dismantle the White Fleet of the Air Component and replace the VIP/VVIP flights with chartered civilian bizjets.
this means the fleet of 2 Embraer ERJ-135, 2 ERJ-145 and 1 Dassault Falcon 900B will possibly be put up for sale.
Belgian NH90-NFH fleet not available due to technical problems
to sum it up, the 3 first helicopters (RN01, 02 and 03) are suffering from radar malfuntion issues (witch have been resloved with RN04 with the instalation of a more reliable radar) aswell as other issues. RN04 will be out for a month due to maintainance, the other 3 are at airbus for retrofits and fixes, the first is due to return in the spring. repairs take 3 to 6 months each.
delays means the 3 remaining Westland SeaKing Mk.48 helicopters (witch were due to retire at the end of 2018) will soldier on until march 2019.
Economical returns on Belgian Rafale offer could turn out to be “an empty box”.
in its most recent offer, the DGA stated that if Belgium invests 4Bln in Rafale fighters, it would get 20Bln in return as part of economical compensations.
the Belgian MoD and government officials believe this to be an economical blackmail, as the country is already guaranteed to get those compensations through other commited aviation projects it is takeing part off (A400M, Airbus Airliners, Falcon…).
the MoD is stating that the offer is similar to getting an empty box.
no official newslink yet, but Belgium is retiring the first of C-130H this morning.
CH-08 is currently performing its last flight.
Dassault drops out of Belgian fighter contest.
just like Boeing (F/A-18E/F) & SAAB (Gripen-E/F), Dassault is now also withdrawing the Rafale from the program.
this leaves just Lockheed (F-35A) and BAe/Airbus (Typhoon) in the running to replace Belgiums F-16 fleet.
Brazilian Navy makes moves towards potential new Gripen maritime fighters
i thought they retired the Sao Paolo and didnt have the money for a new carrier.
if they intend to use land-based fighters, it doesnt make sense to buy a carrier based fighter.
i wouldnt recommend the F-16, as the aircraft is over 40 years old in design and most european operators have now started replacing them (except for Poland, who’s F-16C are as good as new and only 10 years old).
the Gripen-C/D would be more then enough for the Austrian AF, there are plenty available both new and/or secondhand and are cheaper to operate then the Typhoon.

US Clears $366M Sale of C-17 Transport to India.
Government of India – C-17 Transport Aircraft
i thought the C-17 production was closed about 2 years ago?
most of the candidates (except for the F-35) will be obsolete by the 2030’s.
i would recommend leasing Gripens for a 10 year period (like the Czech’s and Hungarians) and invest in the European Future Combat Air System (FCAS).
by then, other more advanced combat aircraft will see the light of day, such as KF-X, TF-X, FCAS,…
the article is quite cryptic, as i read, there have been technical difficulties with the flight controls with multiple aircraft, the fleet has been grounded for the past 2 weeks pending investigation.
