Grifo Family of Radar, Also read that Grifo 16/2000 was designed to be upgradable with AES antena in future so this mean S7 could also have the option, just guessing
Has PAC or CAC or some one from AWAST or Airforce Monthly etc. done a proper cutway digram of JF-17. Ther was one old and incorrect (landing gear were of F-7) done but nothing official.
Thanks
All is needed is an additonal underwing pylon for a total of 3 underwing pylon plus wing tip per wing(like F16). This will allow for 2+1 (2 MRAAM and one drop tank + one wing tip SRAAM )An additional under intake pylon for LDP/ECM pods etc.
Looks like the crew seat/ejection seat is also inclinded to more then standard 13/14 degrees
Air Data Probes
The major difference is range. JF-17 is 12000-13000 kg class fighter with a range of 1200-1500 km AA and 700-800 km in AG. (~ 6300 kg empty weight +2300-2400 kg fuel and ~3800 war load)
J10 is 20,000 kg class fighter with AA range in 1800-2000 km and AG range 0f 1000-1200 km. (empty weight in ~9000 kg + Internal fuel 4500kg and another 4500-5000 kg in war load).
Plus J10 will have more internal space to install more power full (size) radar and other equipment.
The size of aircraft is directly proposal to the cost of fighter. SD-10 is already part of JF1-17 package. The difference is more pylons (11) on J-10 and greater range and range for electronic like radar etc.
Radar for JF-17 will be in 60 nm class (standard F16/Mirage/JAS 39 etc.) , the radar and other electonics on J10 will be in 80-120 nm class(Su-30, F15, or other large size fighters).
Missile AAM A2G has shelf life + air hours. AA11 has max 8 year shelf life and only 40 hours air life (on aircraft, compare to aim 120 has 1500 air and ? shelf life
J10 Max take off weight is ~18000 kg so 18 ton class
JF-17/FC-1 max take off weight is 12700kg so 12/13 ton class.
JAS 39 max take off weight is ~30,000 lbs/13 ton
F16 block 52 max take off weight is ~ 50,000 lbs so on.
Ton is ~ 2000lb / 1000 kg app. actually 1 kg = 2.204 lbs or some thing like that
There was a model behind musharaf at the launch ceramony, Geo had a pic close up. This can possibly tell what major redesign in the intake shape finally look like but hard to say from pic.
Thanks
What is the source.
Manufacturer?
PAC/CAITAC?
any info about load /capacity of pylons?
JF-17 and 3rd underwing pylon
Some time ago there was a cut-way CAD drawing of FC-1/JF-17 showing a third underwing hard point like F16 between 2nd and wintip pylon. Can some one confirm this + the under instake pylon for sensor pods (which is clear that this exists ) since PAF Chief is in the photo.
so total pylons can be 9+1
FBC-1 is a good example where this happend on the upgrade FBC-1A
Any thoughts? Can some one translate the article posted above.
Thanks
EriEye Article in World Airpower Journal
· Range 450 km, limit was set in software by Swedish Air force (Software Controlled)
· In demo./test was able to track large high altitude target up to 500km
· Station altitude 8000m
· Uses NATO STD Mark XII IFF/SSR (Identification Friend/Foe, Secondary Search Radar)
· ELINT Task (Track and pulse description recording)
· Erieye Uses S-band 3Ghz narrow bean 1 degree, which is harder to jam.
· Swedish version has 120 degree each side of aircraft (plus/minus 120 degree, 240 degree) coverage and can track 300 air and 300 sea targets
· Brazilian version has 150 degree coverage
· Greece Erieye has 360-degree coverage and can track 1000 air and 1000 sea targets (track not search so able to provide all data).
· Further growth potential
· E2C APS145 can track 2000 (do not know if they add Air and Sea, Source manufacturer)
· Australian Widget tail can track 3000. (Source manufacturer)
· Russian A50 Early version detect 300 track 50-60 provide interception for 12-15, source another article)
· 3 aircraft are needed for 24 hours 1 patrol, can last up to 30 days.
· 2 a/c 75 nm station from base has 99% availability
· 4 a/c can provide 2 patrols with 1 on standby all times.
· Cost of ErieyeERJ145 ((on Compact a/c like ERJ145) $500/hour.
· E2C cost / hour is $2700 Vs E3C $8300
· High Altitude standard fighter (5m square RCS) range 350 km, Surface ship 320-350km
· Low flying cruise missile in ground clutter (<1m RCS) 150km
· ESC (Optional) has 450 km against standard fighter (RCS 5m sq.)
· IAI phalcon uses 1Ghz L band transmitter. Needs larger platform, its not complicated design but easy to jam since its bandwidth is 3 times of erieye S-band
· SAAB 2000 based Erieye revealed during Paris air show 2003.

Looking at the stats it looks like the range is with 3 (xx litre drop tanks). Plus any chance of increasing the underwing pylons from 2 to 3 each (like F16).
Furthmore any details on each station weight capability like 500kg or 908kg/2000lb each.
The fuel quantity is same as Grippen so the ferry range is same.
Wing area and span is less then previous predictions.
under intake pylon for sensor pods may exist at least based on one model.
