While a lot of people were very disappointed by the no show of 558 it should always be remembered that this is a very old airframe loaded with very old equipment, breakdowns must be expected that aside this latest was not the result of any technical issue, but one of bad management, a thread that has run though the TVOC for years, one that no amount of ‘Press Releases’ or debate can or will resolve as the solution is firmly in the hands of the trustees who to date seem very unwilling too address the issue.
To comment on a few recent posts in this thread, That of Vulcan 903, all well and good putting an overview of the situation on the web after the fact, but the devil in this one is in the detail, that request from the CAA to be specific may have given all here the required information that would have precluded any speculation as too the reasons a Permit was not granted sans structural report that would have allowed 558 to appear as more than a static exhibit. Give a little on this one, and remember the howls and shirt rending that resulted from the original announcement that 603 was too be broken up, now it seems because it was not torn apart.??
It would also have highlighted further mistakes made by the management team in allowing this sad situation too arise, for others to apportion blame on the engineers, doubtful they have any control at all over this, their remit is to ensure the airframe is serviceable and nothing more and those that comment on there employment being down too the public paying the bill, yes it is, but only in so much as we offer our financial support via the TVOC management team and it is they who persist in following there current crass style led by a CEO who long needed to step aside in favour of someone capable of running such an organisation correctly.
As to the rant about who stayed were and when one weekend in Lincolnshire, it would be idiotic in the extreme for any member of the TVOC team to be seen to step out of line on this matter given the broadside sent there way last summer by the members and public alike, would not surprise me at all though, they have arrogantly ignored the publics heartfelt feelings on the running of the TVOC since it’s inception.
In closing I would like to offer my personal thanks too all who contributed to the project over the years, I for one have had great enjoyment out of seeing XH558 fly again several times but my confidence in the current management of the group has evaporated and it is doubtful I will put my hand in my pocket again for the project unless significant changes are made in the upper management that lead to a more open and focused approach too the running of the TVOC, Trustees please note.
Some interesting footage here.

Hope to see lots of warbirds at the FoS this year, Would also like too ‘See’ the Italian mongrel that knocked the wing mirror off my truck and explain in crisp terms that driving down the centre of the road while reading a map is not the way too endear yourself too other road users, This aside have a great time all who get the chance too visit. :diablo:
Hard to handle is a bit of an understatement, I think the term ‘Lethal’ applies to this type of motor if mishandled, but once mastered the gyroscopic effects of the huge spinning block could be put to good use, it also led too the demise to the type in favour of more conventional designs.
Which again begs the question Peter, How is Ganders enforced resident faring these days, little news has leaked back across the water on this one.??
Martin, the total lack of transparency in the TVOC has been a source of contention for years now and has resisted all efforts to break down, in fact I would go as far as to offer that the more people have asked for better communications from the group, the more they have given the appearance to have taken this as criticism and closed ranks even further.
As for the salary issue, I doubt 558 would have returned to flight without the contribution of a number of full time staff being employed as the CAA laid down strict criteria about who could and could not work on the airframe, as such qualified people require payment for their services, above that you will always find in any organization similar too this one, those that make a secure living, their names appear again and again across the board, get used to it, bit like fleas really.
Devils in the detail Paul, hence the liberal use of the word ‘Display’, CAA CAP 403 definition of a ‘Flying Display’ does indeed prevent 558 from making an apperance at Cosford or any other venue for that matter, post was more of a sideways poke at the TVOC for ‘NOT’ making it plain that the A/C would not be able to make any appearances period until the paperwork had been completed and the Pilot/s issued with a DA, I appologise for not making it more obvious. 😮
No reason at all why 558 could not put in an appearance at Cosford and be displayed if TVOC wish, depends on the circumstances, i.e Landing as part of test flight, display, ground manouvers while there, display, Parked, checked and serviced, display, Take off to return or continue the test flight, display.
All this could be accomplished within the confines of the current regulations without a permit to fly in exactly the same manner the A/C has been operated for the past few months, depends how desperate they are to achieve a public apperance…..:diablo:
Interesting post Ninyule, put’s into context the thoughts that have troubled so many over the past years regarding this project.
Approx 10+ million pounds invested from various sources in a project that is currently being kept alive almost totally on the enthusiasm of the general publics expectations of possibly seeing a Vulcan fly once more at a small number of venues.
Is this a reality wake up call required here or has all this effort and expense only been done to provide the nation with the best preserved specimen of a cold war airframe locked behind the doors of a hangar or is that clicking sound that of lawyers pens being cocked. ?

Not a bad tool for the job.
Anti-Bond Adhesive De-Bonder and remover is what I have used in the past fo9llowed by a quick scrub with a plastic scourer pad, buffing will be required to dress out any scratches.
Nearest available product name I can give you is ANTI BOND 2015 Which is available frmo most good boating outlets in the US, not sure about the Uk though but I would expect most will stock something similar for use as a Caulking removal agent.
Very good at removing traffic film and bugs too….:diablo:
Edit: Just spoke to a chum at LAX, he came up with this stuff, says it works but I have never tried it myself.
After several fruitless hours of studying aerial and sat images of this former base the one thing I can say is that no current day evidence shows up as a parch mark that would indicate any underground structures under or around the runway area.
There is plenty of evidence of the original base layout to be seen, buildings and roads show up clearly and one would have thought that any such underground storage area would at least have had some sort of metalled roadway into any entrance’s, nothing of that sort shows up.
Early pictures of the base taken from the air though sparse in detail do not indicate any though the temporary parking areas once lined with aircraft do show up even today.
My opinion would be that this is another of those beer goggles folk tales.
Let us hope so DG, but I already hear large guns being cocked over that one,
As for Bullshooters post, thanks for the insight into the general workings of the TVOC’s information lifeline but I must take issue with your statement that you ‘frankly don’t care’, and ‘noting positive or constructive too offer’ as this is the very attitude that has caused so much dissent on various forums for a long time, I do not see anyone pointing the finger at a single individual, but I do see it specifically being pointed at the TVOC management team for there ongoing condescending attitude too the supporters and contributors of the project without which it would have failed a long time back.
The comments regarding the closure of the original forum with all it’s failings are by the very sterility of the current club offering justified, and has never been explained fully at all and though as a side issue it may have obliged many to join the club to gain continued access to the forum it’s content reveals that few indeed choose too join the debate as before, centred as it is around a few individuals contributions that appear on the face of it to have formed a club within a club, compared with the original vibrant forum it is a very sorry place to visit.
Came up recently in another thread.:

Parts found around the beachy head area on the sea front I beleive have been attributed too a B17 reported too have crashed in the sea off the lighthouse area and washed in over the years, not heard they were from a C-47 at all.
Sorry, Can’t give you the Gatwick video but have this one as a taste of what it sounds like….:dev2:
