RE: British withdrawal from Northern Ireland
It doesn’t matter whether they are loyalist or republican, protestant or catholic.
The salient point is that both sides are as bad as each other!
The reason we often seem to be bashing the IRA more than say, the UDA or UDF is twofold:
1. The IRA have, and I think will, conducted terrorist acts on the UK mainland, eg. England. The loyalists do similar things, but only I think within NI.
2. The IRA’s aim is to change the status quo, which we don’t want.
My point is that in terms of objectives, the IRA are worse. But in terms of their effect in NI, both sides are equally bad. Their acts outside of NI are the primary reason the republicans are perceived as more heavily targeted than loyalists.
RE: British withdrawal from Northern Ireland
No, Non, Nein, Nyet.
The people have the right to decide their own future. And time and time again they have chosen to remain a British province. Just because the minority are vehemently against the majority, doesn’t mean they need to be specially catered for.
I would agree however that some kind of reform is needed. The present system where power is devolved from London to Belfast is always cancelled whenever things get violent.
It’s a bit like the militia rednecks in North Dakota wanting independence. They aint gonna get it, and rightly so. More closely, the majority of people in Basque country are Spanish and wish to remain so. Just because idiots like ETA dislike democracy, is no reason to contemplate giving in.

RE: Isle of Man / IOM
How’d you find out? No one over here knew last night and the internet didn’t acknowledge the existence of EuroManx!

We are all rated by other members.
Members have a link to the right of their name reading “X Points”. Click on this and you can see the feedback people have had and add your own. At set levels of positive feedbacks, the number of stars dislplayed to the left of a person’s name will increase. Bst*** like Saab have gazillions of points, others like me have more usual numbers of points.
Its just that you appear to lack this facility!
I believe “Allow other users to rate you” is a click-on option when you register.
RE: Trilander

RE: Tristar Tribute.
Where do I buy tix???
RE: Bad Flight?
I vividly remember, as a 5 year old, flying from LHR to Bahrain on an L1011-1 of Gulf Air.
The aircraft developed an engine fault and we diverted to Cairo.
No drama, except the Egyptians were very cruel to us. Because it was unexpected and unplanned, we were not allowed to deplane. There was no air conditioning, no food/water and it was reaching nearly 40C outside. The doors were open, but there was no breeze. It was very dangerous – Cairo airport could have lost millions of $ if an elderly pasenger had died and relatives had litigated. I still hate Cairo as a result! I felt very ill.
There was the typical British camaraderie – songs, anti-Egyptian stuff, people passing round any cans and bottles they had. The air crew were great about it. They stayed with us, though I suspect they would have been allowed off.
BA, strangely, flew another L1011 in the next morning (we were allowed of at roughly 11pm, after landing at about 9am) and we were taken on to Bahrain.
Lesson was: BA and Gulf Air will look after you. Airports, especially Cairo, couldn’t care less about you. I learned that lesson as a very sick 5 year old!
RE: Help Wanted Please
I don’t know what the Manx callsign is now. BA domestically use “shuttle” or “speedbird” I think. It will no longer be “manx”.
Euromanx is a new airline, totally separtate from the old Manx Airlines which is now part of BA CitiExpress.
RE: Isle of Man / IOM
Not sure wysiwyg. Flights not started yet. I’ll try and find out though! I would imagine a turboprop with < 30 seats.
RE: Airline colour schemes
Market research = ask 100 people for opinions on your final 20 colour schemes. Then choose the cheapest one.
RE: PTV’s on narrow-bodies
Not that I know of! How about Virgin upper class??
RE: Tristar Tribute.
I used to fly LHR-BAH twice a year for about 4 years on the early 80’s. Sometimes BA, sometimes Gulf Air. But always a Tristar!

RE: US airline deregulation
I tend to think of it as natural selection.
Those airlines with weak strategies will go under. There is no moral case for government dictating which airlines will fly where, at least domestically. It’s the kind of thing you would expect in China!
There have been casualties in Europe too. You could probably construct an argument to support the notion that the likes of Sabena and Swissair, badly run companies both, were ultimately broken by deregulation. We have “5th freedom” rights in Europe, where any EU carrier can operate any route. Eg. Lufthansa could operate from Belfast to Mancester or from Porto to Amsterdam. But the reality is quite different, due to congested airports and “grandfather rights” which prevent an open market in slots.
RE: Bad Flight?
My family once chartered a Piper Aztec because we were flying on a very, well, unserved route. Flying low over the African bush in the mid day heat, it does get bumpy at times. I felt as sick as I ever have!
