RE: 1,000 posts special-Where are you all from?
It’s better in that there are no speed limits and that we were a bit quicker to get off the FATF grey list! Also there’s less unpronouncable bits of french to deal with!!
RE: 1,000 post special-MUSIC(off topic)
Hey leave Beethoven alone! It’s good to have variety in your musical taste – I used to listen to Eminem for that but it’s all a bit samey.
RE: 1,000 posts special-Where are you all from?
shauny2k1 – I used to live in Hull, too. When I was a young whippersnapper (all of 10 yrs ago!) I spent 2 weeks doing some work experience at BAE Brough.
I live in the Isle of Man now, which is wayyy ahead of JER and GCI except perhaps in terms of weather!

RE: Pic Of The Day – B747 at its best!
Yeah, Kai Tak was a fun landing!
The worst bit was when the plane touched down, all you could see was seawater on all sides as the runway was essentially a pier!
Good fun in a crosswind!
RE: KLM
Yeah, but if you have to use LHR in order to get to AMS…
Anyeay, T4 at Heathrow is more bearable so BA longhaul flights aint so bad.
RE: Ryanair? No chance!
Back to my comment about transfer passengers, though.
These “out of the way” airports need to stop thinking so much about point to point traffic and consider the transfer angle. That’s how the big airports developed. Liverpool still has poor connections to mainstream destinations – eg LHR or CDG and until these are beefed up the low cost carriers are artificially limiting the size of their market.
Also – what on earth is the logic of unassigned seating???
It cannot surely cost very much to assign pax to seats rather than have a free seating arrangement. It can be a disincentive to groups of people travelling (eg. young families, couples).
RE: Manx Airlines
What does n/p mean?
No point?
RE: KLM
OK, how exactly are we rating KLM??
KLM biz class will obviously be better than BA steerage class.
On a like-for-like basis, considering (a) friendliness and ability of staff, (b) seat pitch/width/design, (c) IFE, (d) Price; how do you rate KLM relative to its peers?
RE: Ryanair? No chance!
“Low cost” is just a marketing tag.
Twice in the last year, I have gone to AMS on business. On both ocassions, Easyjet cost about 15% MORE than BA or BMI.
(1) The difference is only really in the published fares. BA might quote you £17,200 rtn in economy but will only charge you £100; EasyJet will publish 99p rtn but will charge you £115.
(2) And unless you live near one of the airports that Easyjet serve, BA is usually a bit more convenient.
Also, am I the only one that is getting fed up of 737’s???
Feedback on (1) and (2) please??
RE: Ryanair Lufthansa
The issue I have is that the low-cost carriers do not cater for transfer pax.
They usually go to/from absurd airports in the middle of nowhere. It might be OK if you are going from point to point but as part of your journey, they not normally any use. I therefore say there is ample room for both oldie scheduled carriers and the new boys.
Which is one of the reasons why BA’s decision not to serve transfer pax as such, is unusual to me!
RE: Manx Airlines
Oh – a related point.
In January, Manx altered the interior of its sole 146-200, G-MIMA. They went from 5 abreast to 6 abreast seating.
The funny thing is, the number of pax carried was no different! (They usually got 80-ish whatever configuration or price they went for). If you are struggling – why bother to deliberately make the ride more uncomfortable for passengers and add the extra weight of more seats?
Jeez, no wonder these guys got bought out.
RE: Manx Airlines
Yes, Emerald still serve the IOM with freight services.
The “pressure” from Manx was effectively from the Manx Goverment; as their recent decision to “consider” litigation against BA for withdrawing the IOM-LHR route demonstrates, that pressure may not still be there.
RE: General UK Airline News
Yup, Manx is history!
The number of job losses is surprising – even down to the printers who produce the two in-flight mags and the company that made the “3 legs” chocolates.
RE: Manx Airlines
Thanks for the info Preston.
