There is essentially a strong local market in the IOM; there just needs to be a robust and committed local operator. Emerald perhaps?
London could sustain a 737 no probs, and other destinations like AMS could do well too, with a regional jet.
The thing with ERJs/737s is that IOM cannot handle either!
We do see them pop in occassionally, but as a regular feature they are too tricky. Something to do with the runway – it’s only 1,753m which is kinda short really. There is also supposedly a windshear issue landing on the main runway, which further limits what can fly in on a regular basis.
Apparently there will be a 200m runway extension, but I don’t believe that until I actually see construction start.
To be honest, I don’t like Euromanx. They are a bit pricey and too downmarket for what they charge: their website was designed by a 3 year old for instance. This constant flapping about with the fleet is odd too, not exactly reassuring for the future.

Just so you believe me when I say I was confused, here is a photo of the offending boarding pass. The other 2 below it are today’s passes which don’t say Club on them, but do show the class as “C”.

Without sounding uneducated, what right does the British government (CAA) have to dictate that BA is allowed more flights than BMI?

I agree, I knew I didn’t have a club ticket, but I assumed I was upgraded at check in.
Just to show no hard feelings, I’m doing an IOM-MAN daytrip again tomorrow morning.

Yes, when I said that LoCo’s didn’t issue boarding passes I meant in the traditional sense, not the laminated/plastic ones with no seat numbers on.
Skymonster’s point about technology diffusion to every airport is well made and clearly this would be one big reason for using dinosaur technology in 2004.
I think in hindsight my question was a bit misdirected.
What I meant to say, was why do we all have to queue for ages just to get a piece of flimsy paper/card? I’m glad to see that BA (I’ll admit they are a progressive airline despite my recent grudge) are starting to let you print the boarding pass at home on your computer.
But why are check-in machines so few and far between even now? They save ages! the cost seems very low: every new machine allows you to sack a check in worker or reclaim the space taken up by a desk, so they should pay for themselves.

I don’t think a piece of flimsy card has anything to do with security. The same as victimising breast feeding mothers has nothing to do with security.
And so much of the “real estate” is wasted: why do they always have a section for smoking/non smoking, which they print “XXX” beneath?
I just find it peculiar: LoCo’s have scrapped boarding passes because they say the cost is prohibitive. I’m not sure I fully believe them, but if they’re right you’d think normal (ie non LoCo) airlines would abolish boarding passes too.

If the boarding pass says “club” then that is exactly what it is. You can’t say that “club” only means “club” on certain routes!
You have to admit that it is, at best, very misleading? Actually it’s worse: if this problem has been around for ages, it isn’t misleading so much as fraudulent.
I’m not expecting something that I didn’t pay for, but why make someone walk all the way to the lounge – why not print “no lounge access” or something on the boarding pass?
I’m sure the terms and conditions are crystal clear, but who on earth reads such things?!
I do have Silver status with another airline (SQ) and would like Silver with BA, but I just can’t justify using BA for longhaul because LHR is quite hard to get to from the IOM!
