Air Namibia used to fly Windhoek-Heathrow on a 747-400 Combi, flew them once and they were OK but nothing special. That was 5-6 years ago.

…But BA effectively ban you having a Silver/Gold card unless you fly longhaul with them. I prefer to use other airlines for my longhaul journeys.
You get virtually no tier points and virtually no miles for flying domestically. Eg. 125 BA miles per return flight on all but the highest price bracket. You need 12,000 miles for a return reward flight, to “near” Europe in economy. At £200 a ticket, the required miles would cost me (12,000/125) x 200 = £19,200. But if I pay £7,000 for a return ticket to NYC in First Class I probably get 1,000,000,000,000 zillion miles!
Hence, BA Frequent Flyer is not worth bothering with unless you fly longhaul. Ergo, if you live in the South of England. For Northerners, BA is a joke because other airlines like AF/KLM/EK/SQ are equally as good and all fly from MAN.
Still…how can you be turned away from a biz class lounge when you have a biz class boarding pass?

The “meal box” looks the same as the ones BA gives out in Euro Traveller.
The last time I flew BA, we got…mineral water, small choccie, wallet containing plastic kinife, fork, salt, sugar, and a plastic wrapped sandwich in a near identical box. That was LGW-CDG (which was canned 2 days after I flew that route).
The previous day I flew LHR-NCE and the catering was identical, except the cold sarnie was replaced by a warm cheese and ham ciabatta.
Do you think they share catering?
Does that Herc carry passengers? I know a pax version was made but didn’t know if any still flew.

Frenchmen arent ugly but I doubt whether the EU would be as strong at criticising France or l’Allemange for saving their precious flag carriers.
Correct on that one. AF was given billions and they got away with it. If somebody gave BA billions we’d be invaded for crimes against humanity!

Yeah but the airport was an absolute dump in those days.

Some Emirates predicted UK routes:
4 daily to Robin Hood Donny airport
2 daily to Nottingham East Mids
5 daily to Manston, sorry London Manston
I kid you not, wait for the announcements. I mean though how many more Emirates flights to the UK? For heavens sake, wither the desert is full of Brummies and Mancunians or they are all connecting to BKK and looking for Thai Brides!
What do you think the market is like for a UK region to:
Middle East/Indian subcontinent
Far East
Australia
The three regions I’ve mentioned cover 3/5 of the long haul market (ie. missing the Americas and Africa).
I’d say it’s pretty high demand. Nobody else (NOBODY ELSE) flies to the ME, Far East or Australia from regional airports. I think the other airlines are stupid to ignore this. BA point blank refuses to fly anywhere from any airport other than Thiefrow, BMI is a joke for long haul, as is Virgin….they’re all London-centric and only go to a very very small number of locations around the world. Other global airlines have a good network, but they’ve got BA-itis and refuse to serve anything other than Thiefrow.
EK has the market pretty much to itself. It used to be that people from “the regions” would fly to CDG or AMS and connect onto a longhaul flight from there. Less so nowadays. AF and KLM have limited route networks in the East, and they avoid Oz altogether.
Personally i dislike Emirates and would never ever fly them again, after a horrible experience in August. Very overrated carrier, but then again head and shoulders above any charter airline and they do provide lots of choice
Emirates are laughing all the way to the bank!

Eastern fly around in piddly little wind up aeroplanes. They need to get maximum revenue per seat to have a hope of a profit out of them, even though if rumours be true they got the planes for a song from BA.
I’m a little surprised they’ve had so much success with those fares, but I’ll admit that Eastern’s management clearly know more about the business than me: I would have predicated failure, but the success is quite startling.
