Let’s see now…Oshkosh is a thirty-minute drive for me…I’ve been attending every year since ’78…yeah, I guess I might drop by just to see what all the fuss is about. đ
Note to self: Do NOT help Janie find Chipmunk video if she asks for it. I repeat–do NOT help Janie find Chipmunk video… đ
Do you have any video of the Chipmunk that displayed on the Tuesday in 2005? đ
Steve Oliver flies a Chipmunk routine at AirVenture. Try typing his name into a search at youtube.
No food allowed on flightline. The policy is (supposed to be) policed by AirVenture volunteers.
As far as Kenosha goes: The pre-OSH warbird formation clinics and mass flyouts are organized by NATA (North American Trainers Assoc.). The clinics were NOT held at Kenosha in ’06, nor will they be in ’07. Kenosha still has several interesting warbirds based there (including Chuck Greenhill’s toybox) but don’t plan on witnessing any mass formations there this time.
Interstate Highway 41 between Fond du Lac and Oshkosh has had some recent lane closures for construction, but this project is supposed to be finished by the end of June.
Yeah, I’m another local boy. I will also try to field any AirVenture questions you might have.
Dan
Have you pursued information (such as engineering drawings) from the National Archives in the US?
Bring it on, and it’s about time Kermit sent his back home to fly again.
Kermit’s Mossie is home. Oshkosh lumbermills supplied much of the specialized wood used in Mosquito construction. Can’t get much more “home” than that. đ
USAAF ace Ernie Fiebelkorn was a pretty tall drink of water:

Wasn,t Bluey Truscott about 6’4″?And built like a brick outhouse to boot.
TRUSCOTT, KEITH WILLIAM (1916-1943), Australian Rules footballer and air force officer, was born on 17 May 1916 at Prahran, Melbourne, second child of William Edward Truscott, wickerworker, and his wife Maude Mabel, nÊe Powell, both Victorian born. Keith was educated at Melbourne High School, where he captained the first XI and the first XVIII, and proved a good scholar. He practised as a student-teacher at Spensley Street State School, Clifton Hill, in 1935-36 before working as a clerk with W. Angliss & Co. Pty Ltd, at Footscray. A powerfully built man, 5 ft 9 ins (175 cm) tall and 12 st. 13 lb. (82 kg) in weight, he had auburn hair and dark grey eyes.
Please forgive my inadvertent shortsightedness.
Perhaps others will find the photo useful.
Looks to me like a standard three blader. Can’t think of any Hurricanes that were fitted with four bladers at all.
Perhaps this will convince you? đ
64th Sentai veteran and double ace Yohei Hinoki. Returned to combat after losing most of right leg.
No apology necessary. I enjoyed the photos very much! đ
James raised an interesting question.
For those who may wish to pursue the answer, I offer the FAA registry for the N3N:
As for me, I continue my parts search of a true Dodo: the magnificient TBY Sea Wolf (Anyone see any bits with a “VS2” prefix lately?).
The TBY is what I’d consider a rare aircraft. đ
She is pretty, but not exactly rare. 200+ registered on the correct side of the pond. đ
