Helldivers
They are Curtis F8C-4 Helldivers, the first aircraft to carry that name. First flew in 1928. The two aircraft made for the film are exact replicas.
Here are a couple of photos from the shoot I did for Pacific Wings.
Many photographers in the UK seem to be eBaying their repaired 100-400’s, and are having great success with prime 300mm f2.8 (Sigma mainly).
Although one of them has reluctantly bought another 100-400mm, as he missed the flexibility of the lens. When it works great, it’s a pretty good lens.
Yes I must say that the 100-400 has out lived its time with me I feel. A good lens back I need one that always works. I was thinking a 400 as with the 70-200 plus a 1.4 converter I have 12mm right up to 560 covered, plus of course adding the 1.6 crop of the 20D, I can see for “miles and miles” as the song goes.
Yes Alex, it cost about £200 to get fixed, which makes it a very expensive lens.
I haven’t even taken it out of the box yet, as the poor weather has prevented me from seeing any aircraft. And what else can I use my camera gear for?
Enjoy Wanaka for me 2006, I can’t make it due to work 🙁
Mine may be playing up again, seem to be getting more blury shots again. Not sure if its me (old age) or the lens. I have started using my 70-200 with a 1.4 convertor and I tink I will look for a 400 lens and maybe sell the 100-400.
Which Dig
If you can aford it buy new. In canon either the 350D or 20D. If you are going to get new lens’s as well, then also look at Nikon. Either the D70 or the new 200D.
Buying second hand Dig cameras isn’t always the best way to go.
Jorgo, do you get your 100-400 fixed?
Ray Hannah
RIP
When we were at Wanaka you always know when Ray was flying the spit. He was so low you couldn’t see him until he creasted the hump in the runway!
Corsair
Yes it does fly here.
Devons
Thanks everyone for the help and info.
devon
Thanks DGH and everyone else, most helpfull.
Devons
Are we including Doves as well?
Moggy
Yes.
100-400
I have one and it’s hard to beat for its ease of use, size, zoom range and the results. Compared to a prime it’s a bit soft, but so are all zooms. I’m sure you have seen the photos posted here taken with this lens, and was the first thing you thought, “oh no it’s not very sharp”.
This lens would be the best bang for your buck, IMHO. Women, cars, planes and good wine aside!!
Numbering
I ‘m not sure if this is an accurate account of how many shutter activations the camera has made as im not sure if the camera renumbers if you delete any photos.
I would guess only the manufacturer would have access to an accurate count.
No it dosen’t reuse the file numbers if they are deleted. Read my early post re how acurate this can be.
70 200 lens
Hi
I also use the 28-135 and have tried the canon 70-200, but found it to be too large for small cockpits. In a Yak-52 the body would be outside on one side and the lens the other.
A couple done with the 28-135. This would be the lens I use the most.
File numbering
I use continuous file numbering. I’m on folder 157 and the last photo in that folder is IMG_5752. So that would be my 5752nd photo?
Yes.
Image number
People have mentioned about the camera recording the number of exposures. Could anyone tell me how to access this information? Is it available straight off the camera or would I have to take it into somewhere like Jessops?
P.S. I’m using a 350D.
If you have continuous file numbering on, then the image number and folder number give you the count.
ie: in folder 206 image number IMG_0578.jpg is shot number 10578 on that camera.
This goes wrong if cards from another camera are formated in the camera as this can reset the camera count to that of the other camera and if the number setting wasn’t always contiuous. The only way to be sure is to get Canon to check it for you.
Raw conversion
Hi
If you use RAW, then it’s had to go past the free software Raw Shooter. It allows to to set white balance etc and then save as either tiff or jpg. Converts in the background.
