    Whats my..

    Hi

Do a test with your camera’s foucus point set to the far most left or right point. Focus on something with the sky behind, once it’s locked keep you finger on the stutter so that it’s still half pressed ie: foucus is locked , move the camera to one side so that the object in focus is now now behind the point of focus , but now the sky is. Your f-stop will have gone from say 8 to 20 plus but the object is still in focus.

    Broken?

    Hi

No i have is set on all of em, one i cant understand is the stearman pic because the sun was behind me and at 250/sec should’nt have comme out so dark. Here are some that didnt get away

I had a look at the efix data and that photo was shot at 1/250 and the f-stop was 32. I guess here that the camera has locked focus as you panned, but when you took the photo the focus point wasn’t on the aircraft, thus has exposed for the blue sky. To prevent this, use the center focus point and in theory the exposure will always be on the aircraft.

A test to see if the IT is working is to turn it off and see if the shots get better, the same or worse. A while back I thought my 100-400 was playing up, so I turned it off and found out how good it really was. With the IS off, I got all most nothing worth keeping.

    Photoshop

    Hi

Whatever you do, don’t change the original file. Always change a copy (use the save as option) so that you always have a backup should things go wrong. Once you alter a file and save it, you can’t go back.

I downsize my photos to 1024 by 768 and save at a photoshop setting of 6 for my pc and web use. All of my original photos and left untouched and saved on DVD and hard disks.

As for printing, sending the full size files to the printer should work well as the printer driver will down size as required and most will also upsize as well, asumming you start with a large file.

    Raw

    Hi

    Why not try it?

I’ve certainly found it better when the light’s fading, it seems to retain far more detail in the shadows. Any areas of a single colour (particularly red) come out much much better in RAW, the best example I have of this is the spinner on IAC161 which looked crap in a JPG but lovely in a 16 bit TIFF derived from a RAW image. They scale up a great deal better too.

The downside is, of course, space and the time taken to save the blighters. However, you’ve got a tool that can save RAW as fast as the proverbial rat out of the proverbial pipe, so why not use the full capability of your camera? I clearly remember phoning you from East Kirkby after filling a 2Gb card in a very short time saying “sod RAW”, but I’ve had chance to experiment since and I’m convinced that the results are better. I’ve tried it on the 10D and you can quite frankly forget about capturing RAW at a reasonable shooting rate because it can’t keep up.

    Rob

Since I got the 20D, I have had to eat my words with raw. I now use it a lot,. The speed at which the camera takes and saves to the card is much much faster than my D60. I now only use jpeg when I need a lot of photos in a hurry. You do though need more card space, but as they are now so cheap it’s not a prob. I find that the results using raw are much better and it’s no more time at the PC if you process using a batch programme.

As for storage, I bet this same thread came up when 35mm first hit the traps. Store it well and all will be well, don’t and you will have aproblem.

    See you all in July!!!!!!

    Kiwi to England

    Hi

Thanks for all your help and the birthday wish’s, although at my age I try to forget. The maps is really usefull.

I going to try and get to Lowestoft on the 28th, hard to not travel 150 miles to see a Lancaster having come half way around the world.

When I know more of what I’m doing, I will post it here and try and see if I can meet up with some of you.

Again thanks for your help. I’ll try to not post too many pics from the trip here!

    Kiwi to England

    HI

    Thanks for your help.

One last favour if possible, I have a had a look on line but can’t get a map with Suttleworth, Duxford, Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Lowestoft and any other places of interest on it. Can someone link me to or e-mail me a jpeg map with these on it. This is so I can hopefully come up with a list of places we can go to when we are free.

    Again thanks for your help.

    Hi

Thanks for your help. I’m very keen to see the Lancaster, so will try to get there.

Won’t have much free time, but the guys I’m with are to keen to have a look around as well.

I will try and swap one of the Lola’s for the DH2, but I’m not holding much hope as they may notice.
