Film or ?
Hi
Something to ponder
If you scan film, do you still have a film image or a diigital image?
Cameras
Hi all
My 3 cents worth.
I use a Canon 20D (just upgraded from a D60) with L glass (100-400 and 70-200). The shots I posted earlier this week where from the 70-200 and a 1.4 converter. All my prop aircraft are shot at 1/200th to get good blur on the prop and also the background. This does mean that you get some blury shots, practice will help. Any faster and the prop starts to look stopped. Jets are shot at a aperture of around 8, this tends to give a fast stutter speed and less blurry shots.
Yes do use L glass or at least the best glass you can get. It does make a big difference.
I use high end compact flash cards and have never had any problems. I believe some of the cheaper brands aren’t so good though.
I have found the 20D to be a very good camera, much better than the D60, although I would love a 1Dmk2, but the bank said no. I have read all the gripes about the 20D, but too date haven’t had any problems.
As for exposure, meter on the subject not the whole frame, that way back lit aircraft will be better exposed. Of course with digital, you can check your shots as you go and not wait until they are developed to see how you went and change settings as required.
The best advice is to just go and buy it, use and learn from your results. And of course post some of the photos here.
Tank?
Cracking stuff. Is the tank a runner?
Hi
Yes it is, very slow but looks and sounds great.
Ray Hanna

OFMC Fan
Hi
Yes I will be, going up on Thursday to cover it for Pacific Wings. All the other Provst photos are much the same. The Yak photos will have to wait utill after the nest issue of Wings I’m afraid.
I will though post some from the airshow early next week.
Its not real
it looks to be a replica of some sort…umn nevermind
Don’t feel bad, the first time I saw it, I had run 200m before Karen realised I had gone. From a distance it looks real. It’s this type of prop that makes Classic Fighters different from other shows.
As for the WW1 tank. Until you stand on it, you wouldn’t know it’s not real.
Classic Fighters 2005
Hi All
Classic Fighters is a bit different from most airshows. It use’s ground theatre as one of it’s main draw cards. Right from the start, this airshow tried to be a bit different from all the rest. If all you want to see are merlins, then this is the wrong place to be. If what you want is to see lots of rare, interesting aircraft that interact with other aircraft and ground troops, tanks etc, then this is the place to came and be entertained.
Each airshow has a few surprises and this one will be no different. Where else can you see over 10 WW1 fighters, along with a mix of WW2 aircraft?
The web site will be updated as aircraft are confirmed. And yes there will be some WW2 fighters there. Anyone that has been to Classic Fighters never leaves disappointed because they went.

DH2
Hi
This is the info on the DH2.
Pioneer replica builder the late Walt Redfern who was the first to make plans available for full scale Fokker Dr-1 and Nieuport 24, subsequently produced a fine reproduction DH-2 and made the drawings available to homebuilders. The Redfern DH-2 featured some changes to the airframe, including the use of 4130 chrome-moly steel tube in areas like the fuselage pod where timber was originally used, and the use of a 125 hp Kinner radial in place of the original Gnome Monosoupape rotary
As for the others, they have come from all over the world and then cleaned up for use in the airshow. Apart from the Camel, all have non standard power plants for ease of use.
Camel
Hi
Many thanks for the Camel photos, they are lovely! Do you know who and where the replica was build?
Not sure where it was built, but it’s a Gerald Thornhill TS 1.
Triplane photos
Hi
Great photos Alex,
Any chance of some more Brisfit photos?
Today was Triplane photos, I guess tomorrow can be F2b photos.
Triplanes
Hi
Do you know whether Classic Fighters airshows, particularly 2003, have been released on official videos or DVD’s? I’d love to see footage of that last one, especially the Hurricane which hasn’t yet ventured this far north as far as I’m aware.
Yes most shops selling DVD’s sould have the 01 and 03 as a set, here in New Zealand anyway. Have a look at http://www.classicfighters.co.nz
Who owns the five Fokkers?
The five Triplanes are part of the Omaka Fighter Collection.
here are a few more.

Hi
160hp Ghome rotary. I was really surprised just how noisy it was when we were flying beside it. It’s loud on the ground, but up close in the air, it’s almost painfull.

Hi
