Yet another U-turn is unlikely because the last one was embarrassing enough for the government. Particularly as at the moment they are taking a lot of flak for doing other U-tuns.
Armed Forces chiefs will advocate the Government drop plans to buy the F35C, the conventional carrier version of the American Joint Strike Fighter, and revert to the previous Labour government’s plans to buy the short take-off, vertical landing (STOVL) F35B version of the aircraft carrier, The Times reported.
This article puts most of the blame of rising costs on the decision to change to the F35C. How is it a surprise that deciding to install cats has increased the cost? :confused:
I thought the whole reason they weren’t going to get catapults in the first place was to keep costs down? Now there’s no money and cats are being installed?
The BBC has learned that at least one of the new carriers will be redesigned so that it can deploy normal fighter aircraft that do not need a Harrier-style vertical lift capability.
