Anyway did I miss something? What thread degenerated that is causing level to leave?
I’d like to know too … I could take a guess but there’s so many to choose from!
Isn’t it true that the NH90 is the only fly-by-wire helicopter in production?
It looks very ungainly – like a modernized Yak-141, which is pretty much what the VSTOL version is.
Nonsense.
Personally, and I say this as somebody who despises Bureacracy with every fibre of my being rather than as an English nationalist, but I think that all these parliaments and assemplies are a waste of money, just centralise everything somewhere and keep everything as cheap as possible, hell we all speak the same language dont we?
With hindsight, I agree. If we hadn’t been given the parliament, no-one would be talking about independence now.
Same situation here in Quebec. The idea that Quebec could be a viable country on its own is ludicrous … I laughed out loud when I first moved here and heard about it, but people are quite serious. I don’t understand how some people can become so detached from reality.
Id love to see Scottish Independance, I would also love to see them beg for the English to come back becouse their economy has collapsed afterwards. 😀 :p
I’m Scottish, and I agree. If independence ever happens, all England needs to do is blockade Scotland’s coastline. In fact, just send the ******* troops in. I can’t understand why people aren’t happy enough with the parliament. I tell you, give some people an inch and they’ll take a mile.
UK nuclear weapons plan unveiled
Only 3 subs, warheads cut by 20% (probably).
Does we really need War to promote the product?
You don’t need it, but it’s nice to have. As long as you win, of course …
It seems rather ironic to me that two of the Typhoon’s main drawbacks (its lack of carrier capability and its limited air-to-ground capability) were partly to blame for France pulling out of the programme. If the rest of the consortium had accommodated France’s requirements there wouldn’t be this needless competition, and the UK wouldn’t have to go buying F35Bs from the Americans.
[EDIT]
Damn, that’s what Kilcoo just said! 🙂
Some people think that a small fixed antenna has a far smaller RCS than a big plate moving quickly in all directions. And they are right.
So the Rafale is more stealthy than the Typhoon because of its radar?
Considerable effort had been made to filling or removal of unneccessary surface join gaps and resonant cavities.. Considerable use of panel join serration & edge alignment was practised .Various accesory exhaust & inlet ducts were covered by centimetric band opaque perforated panels.Careful attention had been paid to the alignment of many panel boundries & edges to scatter travelling waves away from the aircraft boresight. The author said none of these features were present on the Rafale,EF or Gripen & said it raised questions about the relative forward sector RCS reduction of these types. This was in 2001 so have any of these measures been implemented since.
If that’s true then I can’t see how the makers of any of the Eurocanards can claim that their RCS of their aircraft has been minimized. It seems to me all those sorts of modifications you mention are the “low-hanging fruit”, before you have to resort to the expensive stuff like radar-absorbing coatings.
This is all because the US disclosed the F35’s source code to the British!!!!!!!!!!!
😉
Some people think that because of the way it looks in photographs. These people see in radio wavelengths and thus are able to tell just by looking.
You couldn’t possibly believe that.
Like with a double-barrelled shotgun, if you miss with the first barrel, you might hit with the second … so why not fire the second first? 😉
Hello, my name is Sargent York Junior… :diablo:
I agree that a land based GAU-8 would have lot of uses, but I’m not sure it would be nimble enough to intercept artillery shells. I’ve seen a display GAU-8, and the sheer length and mass seems to defeat any kind of CWIS operation.
Now, as a direct fire support weapon where a tank shell is overkill/ undesireable, and a 25mm Bushmaster isn’t enough, I think the grunts would love to have an Avenger at thier back, no matter what chassis it was on (M1,Bradley,Stryker)
Matt
I’ve thought for a while that the BK 27 revolver cannon would make a good AA gun, much lighter than the GAU-8 but nearly the same caliber. Could probably fit it on an IFV chassis …

Interesting question. I guess it suggests another question … how does the plane detect that the pilot has lost consciousness?
