I’m not saying that it’s impossible that there’s an ulterior motive, I’m simply saying that they’re clearly stating they are talking about CONVENTIONAL weapons.
And everyone else is clearly stating that it’s LIES.
UK
Royal Air Force
232 Typhoons
20 B-1B Lancer Bombers 😀
21 Nimrod MRA4
150 F-35B
100 British built strike aircraft (GR4 replacement) 😀
25 C-130J
25 A400M
18 C-17
10 Sentinal R1’s
30 A340 tankers
6 U-2 😀JHC (Joint Helicopter Command)
80 CH-47
80 Merlin HC3+
100 AH-64D
Sounds good, but if you have all the Typhoons up to Tranche 3 standards, you won’t need the British-built GR4 replacement. And I would choose UAVs rather than the U-2s, e.g. the Predator B.
Second thoughts, I’d stick electromagnetic catapults on the carriers, do away with the F-35s and have yet more Typhonn T-IIIs!
As for the B-1s, well, they should be within the capabilities of SAMs… if they haven’t been HARM’d by then (but I’ve heard the HARM missile was a disaster in the balkans???)
Maybe they should use ALARMs then …
look at the vietnam era corbas’s I haven’t herad any got shot down from small arm fire mainly from AK-47 but the apaches is getting shot up badly from just AK-47.
That’s only interesting of you know the relative numbers of Cobras vs. Apaches in use.
And those people rambling on about defection, please stop living in a fantasy world and get a freaking clue.
I like the look of it, I think it looks cool (mind you, I liked the X-32 even better!).
How many Vulcans airframes are still in a flyable (with some WD40) state?
Why is the French Rafale being considered but not the Gripen?
And don’t say to rile the Americans even more!
So we can call your plane Harrier GR11 no? :p
Sure, why not?
In France, a law was passed recently about “homeland security” by Sarkozy (our hatred minister). This law considered old warbirds as weapons, and they were prohibited flying!
Collectioners (people who have warbirds… I don’t now the english word) have to fought against the ministry to earn the right to fly their machines…
That’s why you will never saw an old Mirage III or Crusader flying in a French meeting…and also that’s why so many Mirage III or Caravelle were found in scrapyard and just avoid scrapping.
Sigh … politicians, who needs ’em?
GR9 with AV-8B+ nose, AESA-equipped Blue Vixen/Captor, RAM paint, ASRAAM/METEOR, Storm Shadow/SCALP EG. You don’t really need more..
Ah, so someone likes my idea after all!
But the Gr.9A would make a better starting point than the Gr.9.
Looks like no-one likes my radarised Gr.9A … never mind.
If a navalised Typhoon or Rafale is possible, how come the Gripen is never mentioned? It seems very compact … and I don’t like the idea of buying the Rafale since I still have a grudge over France pulling out of the Eurofighter project …
I guess it all comes down to WE HAVE IT, YOU DON”T, WERE NOT GOING TO GIVE IT AWAY. Doesn’t it.
Indeed it does, nice to see you finally admitting it.
The US is sick of shouldering the majority of the burden.
Obviously not; if that were true the US wouldn’t be treating its partners so badly and forcing them to consider withdrawal.
How about simply building more Gr.9A’s, equipping them with radar, and making them compatible with ASRAAM and Meteor?
Cheap, quick and simple!
I thought military-grade eletronics were hardened against that?
